Post Star Wars X predictions
It's not going to be called Star Wars X, but it stars Dasiy Ridley and is set 15 years after SW9 - so basically it is SW10...

Today during Lucasfilm's Studio Showcase at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy announced that three new live-action Star Wars films are on the way. Helming the movies are James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), Dave Filoni (The Mandalorian, Ahsoka), and Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel, Saving Face).

James Mangold’s movie will go back to the dawn of the Jedi, while Dave Filoni’s will focus on the New Republic, and close out the interconnected stories told in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s film will be set after the events of Rise of Skywalker, and feature Daisy Ridley back as Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order.

If it’s really good it can do 560-600m

If it sucks, sub 500

Rey is building a new jedi order? Did she learn nothing in The Last Jedi? :hahaha:

But seriously, a trailer where Rey, Finn and Po are all in trouble and all of a sudden all the bad guys get wiped out ... Pan over to little baby Grogu in his mandalorian mask. It would make all the money. I'm glad they didn't stubbornly stick to the idea that all SW needs to be in the form of a trilogy cause Skywalker was a mess and badly needed a followup.

I feel better about the movie which incorporates Mando. They should pretty much just make it his movie. The only good thing about the Boba Fett series was when Mando shows up.

The other movie with Rey I'm not particularly excited about. Didn't feel much attachment to their new franchise characters and $515,202,542 for the last episode was below Rogue One's box office so am ok with them starting in a brand new direction.

Jungle Book and Jumanji are at $400M+ so I feel the $400-500M level while uber amazing isn't as unreachable as it used to be. The momentum really is what makes it disappointing. The dropoff from 2015 to 2019 was pretty dramatic and didn't do them any favors to get to Episode 10.

Yeah Daisy Ridley's career has been going nowhere so I'm happy to see her back for aesthetic purposes

"Dawn of the Jedi" sounds good, being made by Mangold too. I look forward to that one, but the other two can take a hike.

Well Steven Spielberg hasn't made a Marvel, DC, or Star Wars film, so the answer is no. But you're getting ahead of yourself a bit. Mangold hasn't even made Swamp Thing and this Star Wars prequel yet. Considering how fucked DC/Warner Bros. is it's highly likely that Swamp Thing doesn't materialize.

Dawn of the Jedi has me excited too. Mangold is perfect for it. They must have loved his cut of Indy 5.

It's impossible to overstate just how completely dead this franchise is to general audiences.

I see no reason to think this significantly outperforms Solo.

The only way this franchise stays afloat is if George Lucas is involved again.

The last two were absolutely awful and destroyed the goodwill that was left. The fanbase views Disney Star Wars as fanfiction at this point.

TV spinoffs is fine but the only new Star Wars movies should be Chapter 10, 11, 12. They haven't learned their lesson from diluting the brand before and making it feel less special. But I also feel like without George Lucas and without much real attempt to mimic him the movies just don't feel the same.

Jury is out on Chinoy. Unfamiliar name so im nervous about that one. Love the Mandoverse movie idea. I trust Mangold.

I still want my Rian Johnson trilogy. *pout*

Quote:
Kennedy also offered an update on Lucasfilm’s collaboration with Rian Johnson, who is potentially working on a new “Star Wars” trilogy.

“Rian and I talk all the time,” she said. “He is unbelievably busy. So we’re not actively involved in anything at the moment because he’s doing another one of the ‘Glass Onion’ movies and then God knows what else. But he really wants to step back into the space. It’s a big commitment of time, so that’s really on him.”

Quote:
Taika Waititi is also working on a standalone film in the “Star Wars” universe. Kennedy gave an update on that as well.

“Taika is still working away,” she said. “He’s writing the script himself. He doesn’t really want to bring others into that process and I don’t blame him. He has a very, very unique voice. So we want to protect that and that’s what he’s doing. But we’re going to make that one day.”

Quote:
Kennedy also fielded an inquiry about a potential second season of the series “Obi-Wan Kenobi.” Some fans have pushed for a follow-up adventure for Ewan McGregor’s iconic Jedi.

“That is not an active development,” she said. “But I never say never, because there’s always the possibility. That show was so well-received and [director] Deborah Chow did such a spectacular job. Ewan McGregor really wants to do another. Everybody’s all hands on deck with what we’re doing right now, as you can see by what we showed everybody [at the Celebration]. We’ll turn our attention to that again maybe down the road.”

LOL. Why is this woman still in charge of this franchise? Definition of failing upwards.

They should give Johnson Episode 10 if they're not gonna move forward with whatever he had planned originally. The "real Star Wars fans" will moan about it no matter what so why not just make the best movie possible?
