Re: February 10-12 Predictions
The Numbers reported that Magic Mike's Last Dance will only be in 1,200–1,500 cinemas, so I doubt it does $20 million.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
I wonder why that is? House Party was in like no theaters too, is WB sabotaging all their movies for some reason. No reason a Channing Tatum romance couldn't do well around valentine's day with a normal wide release.
What's the point of promoting HBO Max movies to theatrical if you don't give it a real wide release?

I don't know. It's Warner Bros. They're just a shambles.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
It's honestly shocking they'd put Magic Mike in so few theaters. They're advertising the hell out of it. House Party barely got any advertising so that made sense. Also early ticket sales around here are pretty good. I'm hoping it's just a mistake and it's going to be in many more theaters than that. Otherwise I assume this is what they're going to do with Evil Dead Rise as well.
Titanic is also selling well. I'm thinking low double digits next weekend.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
LOL at that theater count. We had 14 movies last weekend go in mid to wide release with most of them flopping or disappointing.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
I feel like 80 for Brady could have been a Magic Mike sequel, probably a better one. With the superbowl (MM actually had decent male attendance) I don't see more than 12 million opening for it, but with VD and Presidents weekend it might hold well. I feel like Tatum's peak was about 7 years ago.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
Didn't Tatum just headline the first adult audience skewing movie to $100M Q1 2022? He also managed to get that Dog movie to a pretty respectable gross. Think he's got lots of star power still ($62M) pretty much anchoring it himself.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
Lol at WB. The HBO Max day and date strategy really turned out to be disasterous. Magic Mike should open with $25m+ but it'll be lucky to do teens with that theater count.

Maybe the film is really, really bad and they are cutting their losses? Something doesn't add up!

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
WB doesn't have money to market all their movies rn apparantly, which is why they're trying to cut their losses with Batgirl being shelved and HBO Max shows being canned off the service.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
Probably due to contracts with the filmmakers and/or actors, or they figure releasing it exclusively on HBO Max would be guaranteed loss of money on the film. Giving it up to 1,500 theaters, I guess, might be able to make them something...
This merger couldn't be going much worse.
And didn't they announce they were moving up the launch of their new streaming service to this Spring? Weird they haven't announced any details about it, such as pricing or even a name, with just a few months away from launch.

Even The Amazing Maurice got 1,700 theaters this weekend. It will be pretty ridiculous if Magic Mike can't get that many. Hopefully it does really well and can expand the following weekend. Though if it's stupid not to have it in more theaters for Valentine's Day.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
A couple of the theaters I go to have released showtimes and they are not getting Magic Mike. So the rumor of a subdued release is definitely true. I think Titanic is going to be #1 this weekend.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
Probably Titanic will win due to the ridiculous release strategy from WB.
I guess Tuesday will be Titanic's biggest day outside Saturday perhaps.

WB is making such a big mistake. Magic Mike would have been #1 easily.

Strange, all of my local theaters are getting Magic Mike and it's getting the Dolby screen at one of them.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
There is alot of marketing for Magic Mike here so it may overperform for its release size.

Re: February 10-12 Predictions
I mean I’ve seen the trailer basically with everything recently but maybe that’s all the marketing it got? All the theaters around me have it too.

It plays non-stop on TBS/TNT.
