This could very much fail but not much else to see other than Avatar and Puss In Boots. Clive Davis being heavily involved with this one makes me think it could stand out. So why not?

This one is a disaster but seems like everything is disappointing these days. It's the new trend.

They fucked up the title, the fucked up the promotional tour (where tf was Kevin Costner?), seems like they fucked up the quality, but most of all...

They fucked up their concept analysis. VERY respectfully, I don't think Whitney Houston died with a massive fanbase. Yes, her early career peak in early 1990s was incredibly high, and she has numerous songs that are truly GOAT level, including THE only real version of our beautiful American national anthem. But, she became a real joke during the late 1990's and into the 2000s. She ruined her own life with drug problems and reality tv mistakes. She was a name constantly thrown around when the Spears family legally intervened during Britney Spears well known mental health battle. It's sad but true.

Her legacy is not one of Beyonce or Ray Charles, it's of a good natured, historically gifted singing talent who ruined her own life. I don't think there was a giant demand among whatever fanbase was left to relive her downfall.

It could still recover and make a good amount. The people who watch these musical biopics don't really care about quality, they just wanna hear the songs. Thus why it has an A cinemascore.

There is no way to spin a $5M opening weekend. This will be lucky to reach $30M let alone $150M.

I think where they messed up big time was making this look like a paint by numbers 'celebratory' biopic when everyone knows her life was a tragedy, I mean even her daughter died of an overdose. That is not a happy story. They should've leaned hard into the drug addict, fall from grace angle instead. That is way more compelling as a piece of cinema.

The MJ movie will need to avoid the same mistake when it comes to the pedo trial. They need to make that the centrepiece of the entire film instead of sidelining it like I'm sure the family want, it's the most dramatic moment of his life. No one wants to sit through 2-3 hours of a greatest hits montage. They want DRAMA.

And here I was thinking the terrible weather was the reason.

Whitney is a hard person to an interesting impression of compared to instantly recognizable personas of Mercury, Elvis and Elton. Amy Winehouse would be more interesting to see someone imitating her.

I think the one person who's biopic would be huge is Britney. Probably won't happen this decade though.

I don't know about box office but I think a surrealist auteur take on her life as a fairy tale gone awry could be an amazing film. Mulholland Drive ish.

Britney is still so young, no biopic for her any time soon. Even the Madonna one feels too soon. MJ MAYBE.

Doesn't it help if the musician is dead? And I don't see much to warrant a Madonna biopic. Apart from adopting African babies, what is so special about her life to warrant a biopic? Lots of hit songs doesn't necessarily translate to people wanting to invest in your story. What's the hook?

Anyway, I predicted $21 million in the derby for I Wanna Dance with Somebody. It opened with $5.3 million, ouch. Part of me hopes it flopped because people care about correct English, lol.

Young girl from the midwest who lost her mother when she was 6 moves to Manhattan in the late 70s to pursue stardom, while there as a struggling dancer and singer is raped by a stranger, is traumatized and considers moving home, but ultimately finds her strength and decides to push on with ruthless determination. Right before her career is about to take off, she accidentally gets pregnant from her boyfriend. Then decides to abort the baby so it won't hurt her career.

That was the plot of the Madonna biopic script that topped the Black List.

The Beatles movie is the obvious next

Beatles has potential. They need to just call it THE BEATLES. Stop getting cute and using song lyrics.

I think the Kurt Cobain/Nirvana/Courtney Love story has even more potential. Would be a downer obviously, but people still worship Kurt.

BEATLES could be done Elvis/BR style and be highly commercial. Nirvana still feels niche.
