Quote: https://deadline.com/2023/04/super-mari ... 235326157/SUNDAY UPDATE, Refresh for latest…: Coming in higher than Saturday’s projection for the full sophomore weekend, Illumination/Nintendo/Universal’s The Super Mario Bros Movie has barreled its way to an estimated $678M global running cume through today. Of that, $330M is from the international box office to date. The second overseas frame is estimated at $94.1M from 71 markets. This reps an amazing just 28% drop from last weekend’s record-setting opening. only $1.32 billion more to go

$678 so far and what looks like another $300M domestic for $978M.
Will be interesting to see Japan, the Middle East and other markets still to come but as a rough estimate I'm going with $1.35B final global tally between holdovers and new markets.

Big move today, Mario passed Shrek 2 and is now #4 on the all time animated domestic list (unadjusted). That held the #1 animated spot for 12 years until Dory passed in so a big achievement for Mario.
13 Incredibles 2 $608,581,744 14 The Lion King $543,638,043 19 Finding Dory $486,295,561 26 The Super Mario Bros. Movie $444,058,475

It feels so weird to me that Incredibles 2 is #1 of all time for animated films. I feel like it was instantly forgotten.

I know The Incredibles #1 was very well received but I definitely feel there was a bit of a spike due to the overall MCU and superhero craziness.
Finding Nemo made much more than The Incredibles (#1) and the sequel Finding Dory did $486M. Even as a best case I think Incredibles without the superhero halo probably would have topped out closer to $525M-550M.
It beat TLK's live action remake and TLK's grosses and admissions were way above the other two. I can understand how that pulled a $543M tally.

Nah. Incredibles had been one of the most requested sequels of all time. Its matter of time we see another one well. Just focus more on Jack-Jack and his ever deveoping powers. It will make bank again. Question is who will take over from Bird as he is moved on to work with Lasseter's new studio.

The SMB digital release has been delayed indefinitely. Should definitely keep rolling throughout May now.

Holds are incredible for SMB, and there's no direct competition at all throughout May. $620M+ DOM is in the cards. These high numbers a consequence of inflation? 3 films have reached $600M in the last 12 months with relative ease.

Its inflation + top heavy box office reminiscent of 80s and 90s.

Rev, no offense but I don't know why you even keep upping the club, I don't even know what drops you're trying to project to get to 2b

Luckily Avatar 3's box office grosses will be added here since Cameron has $ to spare to help get the club past $2B.
