Strange World Previews
800k
That is slightly more than half of Encanto. Looking like 15m 3 day and 20-25m 5 day. Yikes what a disaster

Re: Strange World Previews
Other #'s:
Devotion $615,000 $206 PTA
WF $9,500,000 $303.7M -24.82% Black Adam $690,000 +13% $158,381,731 Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile $350,000 +181%
Looks like the openers may be DOA. Don't exactly see Fabelmans doing much better. Funny to see LYLE in its 8th week do half in dailies what Strange World is doing on Day 1.

Re: Strange World Previews
Lyle had a bad release date being too early for holiday weekdays. Why not copy the Greatest Showman (Christmas weekend) as much as possible?

Bones and All 345k
Solid, though probably skewed a bit by Chalamet's fans. Should be able to do 5-6m over 3 days and maybe crack 10 over 5 days

Re: Strange World Previews
Meh. The marketing for this movie was... well, strange. Not sure what audience it was going for. And unfortunately with how Disney+ is a given they have really diluted seeing animation in theaters

Re: Strange World Previews
Films that debuted on Disney Plus while Strange World got a theatrical release this year:
Hocus Pocus 2 $150M+ domestic potential Turning Red $200M+ domestic potential Prey $100M+ domestic potential Pinocchio $80M+ domestic potential Disenchanted $100M+ domestic potential
Heck, I'm pretty sure they could have re-released Encanto and it may do better considering it had a subdued run last year. Pinocchio or Disenchanted easily could have been swapped in!

Re: Strange World Previews
Yup. Idiotic, Hocus Pocus would've made bank in the theater and then would've done well on D+ regardless. And Turning Red would've done really well if it was released in the Summer like in August. But I guess good luck with getting their theatricals back on track minus MCU

Re: Strange World Previews
There's no way they thought Strange World was going to be more popular than Turning Red, Hocus Pocus 2 and Pinocchio so the only explanation is they wanted to give Disney Plus the big hitters. Judging from Chapek removal that may not have gone over so well.

This is why Chapek is out (among other misfires)

Re: Strange World Previews
Wed #'s
BP2 $10,000,000 +23% $313,670,596 Strange World $4,200,000 Knives Out $2,000,000 -> Purely an estimate from exhibitors according to THR Devotion $1,800,000 The Menu $1,100,000 $12,426,443 Bones and All $900,000 Black Adam $660,000 +50% $159,037,609 The Fabelmans $400,000 Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile $250,000 +136% $44,121,937
If BP2 follows Justice League (2017) which had a similar Wed. #, it would be at $57.4M for the 5day weekend ($361.1M total by Sunday).

Re: Strange World Previews
Given the barren market maybe Strange World will have good legs. They'll probably put it on D+ on Christmas, of course...

Re: Strange World Previews
$2M estimated from other exhibitors according to THR for Glass Onion from 600 theaters.
That's without a real push in marketing that it was theatrical, a 1 week run and few theaters.

Re: Strange World Previews
Not terrible for Strange World after that awful preview but it's still a flop.
Glass Onion probably would've made $15M+ with a traditional release. Such a shame. At least those of us in the know will get to see it in theaters a month early.

Re: Strange World Previews
Not sure about Strange World legs. Apparently it's the first Disney or Pixar animated movie to ever get a CinemaScore under A-. It got a B.

Re: Strange World Previews
Deadline listed Strange World demo breakdowns and I'm more confused Strange World received four stars on Comscore/Screen Engine’s PostTrak and a B CinemaScore. Men over 25 were dominant at 33%, but hated it at 66%. Women over 25 were next in attendance at 24% but gave it a 90% grade; then men under 25 at 23% and 83% grade and women under 25 at 21% who gave the pic its best grade at 92%. Diversity demos were 47% Caucasian, 25% Asian, 22% Hispanic and 6% Black. Not a flashy recommend at 55%. Seems like men over 25 hated it? Assume lots of Dads? Is it anti-father undertones or something? Deadline also estimates possibly $12M 5day for Glass Onion for a nearly $19.2K PTA. Definitely would have given WF a run for #1 if it went all in wide theatrical and looks to be a massive hit for Netflix when it hits streaming.

Re: Strange World Previews
Glass Onion dropped 6% on Thursday and 3day/5day is now estimated by Deadline at $8.8M/$12.8M.
If it was an Oscar movie, wouldn't that be the best limited expansion of the year? $13M 5 day from 638 theaters!!! It's #'s keep going up!

Re: Strange World Previews
LOL if Glass Onion somehow manages to outgross Strange World's 7 day tally. SW will probably eek it out but here's hoping for Glass Onion to really leap this weekend.
