Barbarian is showing a 49% Friday-to-Friday drop. :whaa:

Should drop sub 40% with that. 40-50m total possible for it.

With A+ CinemaScore, Woman King should be super leggy

Universal and Paramount will take the headlines, but Sony is having a pretty good year as well with Uncharted, Bullet Train, Crawdads, and now potentially The Woman King.

6.8m Friday for 18m weekend.

Not a huge breakout but solid enough. I’m thinking it gets bare minimum 4x multiple.

Box office wise even though Cruella was released at the end of May 2021, box office of Woman King should be close to Cruella's box office. Cruella had an "A" CinemaScore while Woman King has an "A+" CinemaScore. Cruella opened with a $21.5 million first weekend and ended with a $86.1 million domestic total. Woman King should end around $80 million. Cruella had little competition until Black Widow arrived at the end of June 2021. Woman King might face more competition in the first 4 weeks of its release than Cruella.

4 openers (1000+) and TGM slips only one spot in rankings from last Friday to #6 despite losing 13.3% of its theater count. It's overall PTA is down only 13.6%. 18th weekend in the top 6.

#boycottwomanking was trending on Twitter. So it didn't even take until awards season for some backlash.

Why are people acting like this is the first movie to ever sanitize history? No one cared The Greatest Showman glossed over his abuse of disabled and marginalized people and animals

Pearl and See How They Run are also-rans. I thought the latter could be something older people would like to watch. I don't know. Maybe it's too early in the year for that awards season adventurous nature to kick in.

Obviously it is amplified because this film is a double whammy in terms of triggering people; black people and women. But it doesn't seem to be having an effect, so there's no cause for concern. I bet every film has a hashtag movement against it in some form.

Anyone know the last movie that was in the top 2 and then dropped out of the top 10?

Plenty of black people are against the film as well. As they should be.

It was quite fitting that The Woman King topped the box office on the weekend of Queen Elizabeth II's funeral.

It felt like quite a good weekend, obviously buoyed by the Viola Davis film, but the kids movies did very well, as predicted. Barbarian had a delicious second weekend drop of under 40%, which bodes very well for the rest of its run. Unfortunately it opened low so even if its drops are small it won't be making anything like The Black Phone, but a finish of $40-45 million would be excellent.

Top Gun: Maverick knows no end. I've ran out of superlatives for it. I thought it would finish at $715 million but it's probably looking at $720 million now, if not more. Hopefully Paramount expands it.

Bullet Train will hit $100 million next weekend, and hopefully it can beat The Lost City. It's apt that it will finish with a similar total being that they're both non-franchise, non-sequel action comedies starring Brad Pitt.

And $100m for Brad Pitt is a nice throwback to Seven in 1995 - it was a fall release that legged it over many months to $100m

Quite a disappointing Tuesday increase for Barbarian. It had $606k on Monday and $763k on Tuesday. I don't know, but that feels low. I was expecting to wake up this morning and see a figure much closer to $1 million.

You have to consider that the CinemaScore was more symbolic than genuine considering the 'black pride' nature of the film. Its drops so far don't feel indicative of a leggy film. I'm seeing more The Invitation (3.2) legs than Crawdads (5.1) legs.
