Where the Crawdads Sing Predictions
Trailer is out. Book is really good, I read it and easily one of the biggest books of the past decade.
I could see a 20m OW and strong legs for maybe 80m total.

Re: Where the Crawdads Sing Predictions
Daisy Edgar-Jones is a fantastic actress. I've been interested in this since hearing she was starring in it. I bought the book as soon as I did but haven't read it yet. Which actually works out for the best because now I can read it and picture the characters and locations like they are in the trailer rather than picturing it one way in my head and then having it be nothing like I imagined. That's usually what happens with movies adapted from books. Hopefully this will lead to less disappointment. Movie looks very good. I'll definitely go see it. Will read the book soon.
Movie should certainly do well. 60-80 Million total probably.

Re: Where the Crawdads Sing Predictions
It's one of the best-selling novels of the last 10 years. I know that it broke 7 million copies (in NA) last year, and it's continued to chart well since. That's almost as high as The Help, Gone Girl, and The Fault in Our Stars (all over 8 million), but all those novels got to 8 million+ AFTER their movie adaptation was released. So, Crawdads is near them and it hasn't even had its movie sales boost yet, so it's going to eclipse them pretty easily when the movie is released.
I'll have to look up some sales data, but it's probably sold more copies *before* its movie adaptation than almost everything in the last 10+ years except maybe the first Fifty Shades of Grey and perhaps The Hunger Games novels did before their movie adaptations.
Worldwide sales broke 12 million copies recently, so there should be some markets where potential is strong.
Book sales don't always translate to box office receipts, but it's certainly in good company with them. Could indicate $100 million+ is doable.

I got 100 pages into the book a few years ago but had to take it back to the library, may have to get it and finish it now

Re: Where the Crawdads Sing Predictions
Has anyone seen the trailer for this before any movies? I've been to theaters close to a dozen times since this trailer was released and have yet to see it in the theater, even though it opens in a month. It's really weird because Sony has had Bullet Train before practically every movie in that time period even though it opens after Crawdads. The Sony president seemed pretty enthusiastic about the movie and its commercial potential in an interview a few weeks ago, but it doesn't feel like they're putting the work in for it (unless they're doing really targeted marketing?).

It's on Amazon's best seller list now so they're probably targeting more fans of the book perhaps than average moviegoers?

I've had it with The Lost City, Happening, Men and I think one other but I can't remember.

I just saw the trailer in front of Top Gun and looks like it could be a decent hit considering the book is popular.

Well, everyone was wrong about this. Looks like it'll finish in the ballpark of The Northman and Downton Abbey: A New Era.
