From Gitesh:

Steep 65% drop for #Lightyear  on the 2nd wknd to $17.7M for 10-day #boxoffice cume of just $88.8M. This is the lowest 10-day start ever for any of Pixar's summer movies. Even Cars 3 had $98.8M at this point in JUN 2017 after 55% drop.

Onward dropped -72.9% but that was due to Covid. For LY to even be semi close to that is embarrassing for all involved.

Out of 23 Pixar movies released theatrically:
-4 have grossed $400M+
-10 have grossed $250M+
-20 have grossed $150M+

The other three to not get to $150M are The Good Dinosaur ($123.1M) and Onward ($61.6M). Welcome to the Club Lightyear! Onward had to deal with everything locking down and LY could miss The Good Dinosaur so it really is Pixar's worst box office performance ever!

Lightyear and The Good Dinosaur are similar in that it seems like they came up with a setting for a movie (dinos/astronauts) then gave up having any other hook than that. The loss of Allen made him named Lightyear irrelevant. If it was about the actor who gets pulled into the movie or something, you’d have a Pixar plot.

The Good Dinosaur probably adjusts to $150m+ by now lol

Not sure I see how Allen would have any bearing on LY’s performance. I think it’s all the other factors we mentioned.
Would Tim Allen’s ‘voice’ really make an impact on the boxoffice? I didn’t even recognize that it wasn’t him.

Marketing wise it would've made a difference. The familiarity of it all. I'd guess it cost them around $20 million on opening weekend alone.

Allen voicing the character would have given the project a general warming from the fan base that Lightyear didn't receive. This seeps into public consciousness more than one may think. Not saying it's taking the lion's share, but it's far too big to ignore as a non-factor.

They were betting on Chris "Captain America" Evans brand to work it's magic  they bet wrong

Allen headlining the movie would have added $20m to it’s OW???
Maybe as Algren said there is a subconscious factor at work with voice acting.

They would have made a different movie and changed his look if they were planning on having Allen. I'm guessing they didn't drop Allen due to his political views since he was just in Toy Story 4 three years ago, I think they just wanted to make a movie that fit Chris Evans style of hero instead.

Elvis takes the #1 spot with $31.2m while TGM only loses 33.7% off of a holiday weekend with $520.836m in just 4 weeks of release.

It's a win-win. Elvis gets No.1 and TGM gets an incredible 5th weekend.
