ET opened 40 years ago this weekend! Still what I believe may be the best box office run of all time. -$359M original domestic run from a $11.8M opening weekend -In theaters for 81 weeks!! -Only film with more weeks at #1 than Titanic (16) -Still holds spots in the top 10 of largest box office grosses such as for biggest 8th, 9th, and 10th weekends. -Held #1 of all time domestic for 15 years until SW's re-release in 1997. |
