That was about Top Gun 2. Corpse is hoping for a Bob Burger breakout. You never know with the strong reviews.

if it has ginormous walkups(not crazy considering reviews), I am sure lots of folks here are going to be stunned by the numbers. Not me considering presales have clearly shown this is gonna explode.

Many pundits believe the critically acclaimed sequel could soar well north of $100 million domestically, but tracking — one of Hollywood’s favorite pastimes — has become fraught in the pandemic era. Exhibitors are especially bullish on the pic, and are even thinking $125 million-plus.

The Tuesday Top Gun 2 screening sold out here. And tickets were $20.45 a pop. That's insane. I guess some people couldn't wait a couple days for tickets to be cheaper.

Has anyone noticed Tuesday bumps have been tiny lately? Films used to increase 20-30% on Tuesdays. Now they usually only increase 10-15%, sometimes single digits and even stay flat or decrease slightly.

I as joking. ;)

Keyser's post came after the Bob's Burger talk and didn't refer to Top Gun specifically. I know he was talking about Top Gun, of course, but thought it was funny. (Allow me to indulge in some humor! :P)

Quick check at Bob Burger's presales, its not doing bad at all. Thinking 1.5m previews. That should be sufficient for it to hit at least low 20's over the long weekend.

I haven't seen it mentioned, but if Top Gun 2 comes in around these forecasts, it could challenge the Memorial Day Opening Weekend Record that is STILL held by Pirates 3. I like that this record has managed to hold for 15 years, but it'd be cool if it was finally broken, too.

Would be fucking insane for Top Gun. Nice if this weekend lives up to the hype, as last year's AQP and Cruella 2-fer was a nice resurgence.

Victoria day this monday in Canada. Plus it lost 1 Imax/PLF almost everywhere due to Top Gun 2 early show.

TG2 will break the all time theater record with 4732 theaters beating Lion King at 4725. :whaa:

This has the potential to be a Spidy type weekend if the numbers end up holding up and keep going. The lack of product, a holiday weekend, amazing reviews, nostalgia to pull in older audiences, multiple delays, etc. has pushed this from an anticipated sequel to a cultural zeitgeist type of film. It's going to be a week for the ages for the box office.

It's so crazy to think this movie could open that high. It's not a Marvel movie :P. Good for it if it does though. It would be nice to see a non-superhero movie doing these numbers.

I always thought this could do about 90m but now thinking 120m is more like it.

It’s built up buzz over 2+ years, has great reviews and many over 35’s clamouring to see it. Surest bet outside Marvel.

So excited for top gun. Easily the best reviewed summer blockbuster since MI: Fallout in summer 2018

Yeah I just looked at showtimes tonight and tomorrow in my area and there's like 10-20 tickets sold at a lot of them already, which is kinda surprising. I don't know if it'll quite top $20M but anything above $15M would top most expectations.

The Bob's Burgers Movie- 1.5m previews

I wonder how front loaded this will be. I feel like with that it has to do at least high teens 3 day and over 20m 4 day.

Come on, where's the top gun number?

This is going to be a gamechanging type box office run for the industry.

The last movie was #1 for the year and for a sequel to come out nearly 40 years later and have a serious shot at top 3 for the year possibly is a jaw dropping result.

There are a lot of franchises they could reboot that have remained iconic if done right. Pay Culkin $50M and do a legit Home Alone 3 ignoring all the others. Wouldn't be shocked by a $400M Christmas run. ET 2 will never happen but there's a lot of IP in the 80s that could follow this model.

Imagine a Crocodile Dundee with all the recent Aussies in supporting cast (Hemsworth, Kidman, Hugh Jackman, etc.). Cheesy yes but with a unique spin who knows? :P

Some ideas from top 100-150 all time adjusted

Saturday Night Fever - Could they Creed/Top Gun this with Travolta as supporting actor?

Pretty Woman - would this be kind of the female version of Top Gun 2?

Twister - Disaster movies are out but they could try I guess

Armageddon - Risky like Twister after ID42. The Rock is a must have.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas - maybe an underrated option after Sonic and the Illumination one?

Mrs Doubtfire should probably get rebooted after Jumanji

The Sixth Sense would have been cool idea with Willis available but between that and M Night volatility has potential to go wrong
