I've liked Wilde since The O.C., but Booksmart was way overrated too.

If Harry Styles wasn't in this feel like it wouldn't have gotten 99% of the attention it's gotten.

Oof. Still looking forward to it but sad this seems like a dud along with all the bad press. I thought Booksmart was fantastic.

Ditto. There's still a decent number of reviews that are pretty good. I'm sure it's perfectly watchable.

But with overall poor reviews it's almost certainly going to flop. It needed strong ones to do well.

Yeah. I still liked the trailer and I'm still going to watch it. I'm also sure it's fine, just maybe not the Gone Girl that it could've been.

It could still do Girl on the Train numbers. That had bad reviews.

The reviews are fine lol idk why people are thinking they’re awful, idk how much weight they even hold for most people if we’re being completely honest. I personally can’t stand most (not all) critics and disagree with the movies they dislike a lot of the time but this looks interesting and I like thrillers

But most people aren't like you. They see the 42% and the green tomato splat / 49 yellow Metacritic square and make a mental note that the film is bad and not worth seeing.

I didn't even know of this film until this week, really. The amount of (negative) attention it's receiving is pretty crazy, and it's not even related to the film itself, mostly the cast.

Almost every viral video I've seen shows Pine in clear discomfort doing these interviews and such. The dude clearly wants to be anywhere else. And Styles apparently spitting on Pine in the one?

I'm not even familiar with what's been going on (don't care), but refuse to do the media tour if you can't act like an adult or professional. You're all rich, you can take a tiny financial hit if it violates a contract.

Is this the most disasterous press run ever? At least since Mission Impossible 3?

It looks like the spitting thing isn't real though. It's actually a pretty relatable moment where Pine is worried about where his sunglasses are and then looks down and is like oh, they're in my lap.

Actually all this publicity ought to get people out to see it OW no?

I'm actually feeling optimistic about this being an event film now. R rating isn't ideal though.

My god this whole thing is ridiculous lol, I’m not saying that things didn’t go down during filming/after but the way people are talking about this you’d think they all got into a brawl on the red carpet lol. There probably is hurt feelings and they probably aren’t exactly on the best of terms now but Florence did clap for Olivia during the ovation briefly and people are saying that of that Florence went out of her way to not make eye contact with her at all, when there’s three people between them and she actually turns around lol at one point lol . I really do think they’re playing this up to a certain extent, if Harry Styles wasn’t in this movie nobody would be going nuts like this. I’ve heard his role is kinda small anyway and that it’s Flo’s movie. Really liked Booksmart and Olivia’s directing so I’m excited to see this

I'm thinking is going to flop. They're trying way too hard to make this buzzworthy and a must see but the "controversies" all feel so lame. If it gets saved it will be from the lack of product.

I'm with stuffp in that I feel all of this publicity has heightened what was otherwise a September release with bad reviews. Surely it'll do better now because of Spitgate, etc. And it's hard to tell if he spits or not - if nobody ever suggested he spat I would see the clip and be "he found his glasses", but now it's in my mind I can't un-see it. Why would he even spit though??! It makes no fucking sense, and I'm sure if he did spit then Pine wouldn't be so cheery about it, which makes me lean towards it being a coincidence that both their actions aligned to make it look like a spit rather than it actually being so.

I will be seeing this, I don't always agree with reviews and it looks really good to me
