Buzz has been and still is crazy for this film. Expect a big Oscar push for this one. Hoping for a BP nom and a win for Michelle Yeoh |

It's 984 dollars away. Hardly incredible, though. $70 million isn't much and it took them over six months to get there. I also wonder how much of that A24 sees. |

I would say it is pretty incredible given the type of film it is / release model / release date / market at the time. It didn't even have the benefit of awards season and made like 85% of that gross in its first two months. |

Don't get me wrong. It's not done badly. I just think we need to be careful of the adjectives we use. It's done fine. But it is a multiverse science-fiction adventure, and it's not like those aren't in fashion right now.  If anything I'd say only reaching $70 million is a tad disappointing when you consider the great press it received. Everybody was coming out and saying how amazing it was. It's probably third only to Top Gun: Maverick and Morbius this year in terms of the most talked about movie. My Facebook feed was plastered in EEAAO hype and buzz for weeks. For the word-of-mouth behemoth that it was, to be out-grossed by a film like, I don't know, Where the Crawdads Sing, which quietly went under the radar, it is disappointing. So overall I rest on it being a decent gross, but nothing spectacular. It is, after all, only $70 million. But in terms of a movie that went wide to only $6 million ... great run. |

It is a24's highest grossing film by almost 50%. You can't compare films from major studios to films from indie distributors. Where the Crawdads Sing had Sony's marketing budget and was based on a popular book. |

It being A24's highest-grossing movie means nothing in the grand scheme of things. If anything, it just shows how small A24 still is. Good for A24, they're growing. But forgive me if I don't get out the balloons and streamers for a $70 million finish. And I don't see why you cannot compare it to a studio film (and a small one, too). EEAAO had something much better than studio marketing, it had exceptional organic word-of-mouth, and let's not kid ourselves, A24 marketed the hell out of it, too. I saw so much marketing for it. It's not like it didn't have a single TV spot or online ad. It had loads. |

It's up to $73 million. That's probably where it stays unless it wins Best Picture, then maybe $80 million is on the cards. |
