It would make sense if this was true, since they also apparently cancelled a Scoob movie which doesn't make that much sense compared to just releasing it on Max if it still exists. Batgirl at least you could claim if it's Elektra/Catwoman level that there's damage if they let people see it.

Getting rid of HBO Max as a brand sounds dumb... wtf. Seems pretty fucking stupid to throw away a movie that was gonna go to streaming anyway unless it was that bad.

WB are pretty king of making awful decisions so I guess.

Wait... HBO Max is getting scrapped? Or rather, absorbed as a category under Discovery Plus?

Hopefully this is just a rumour because I agree that it sounds stupid. It's way too early into the streaming game to be doing stuff like this, imo.

Just read that Batgirl was apparently complete. There were "concerns" it'd damage the DC brand. Umm... enough to throw $90m (or more) down the drain? Canceling this and not The Flash (which has been damaging the brand) is also an awful look. WB is really, really good at making dumb decisions in recent years.

According to Variety the "tax savings" are what is the biggest reason for shutting this down.

https://variety.com/2022/film/news/batg ... 235332062/

If they sell it or put on streaming they won't gain those. Is WB that desperate for cash (or inefficient) that they can just drop $90M with the drop of a hat and scrap it?

At the very least couldn't WB dump it and charge a fee as a "charitable donation 100%" so at least people can watch it? I feel like talent will also be so burned by this and erratic nature of DC movies that they'll second guess joining them.

You know it's bad when Ezra isn't DC's biggest issue they are dealing with.

Shack mentioned it, but here's this:

Like... if it's basically finished, what's the point of canceling it? Tax savings (as O shared) too?

And yes, these cancelations of completed films will definitely make talent question wanting to get involved on a project that could be canceled after it's already finished. Imagine how the animators on this one feel now, for example. What a waste.

Also, does TGM not show how much nostalgia sells?

If I were WB, you'd follow the same marketing and put Keaton everywhere.

Fraser is in Scorsese's next movie with Leo and is the villain in Batgirl. Also coming from the director of Ms. Marvel. So many potential buzz building opps they are missing feel like there's got to be more to the story for something so dramatic as scrapping a $90M film.

Max is the best streamer ... This sucks.

Discovery people are just swinging their dicks around for the sake of it.

Yeah that's fucking weird to shelve things finished when you need content on your services...? I don't even know. What an F U to everyone who worked on both projects.

IF ZASLAV DOESN'T CANCEL THE FLASH ON THURSDAY :ninja: I'M RIOTING!!!! alone in my backyard

if BatGirl and Scoob! saved you $130 million in taxes. You'll save $300 million canceling & writing off The Flash :funny:

HBO Max may be absorbed into Discovery Plus, so it's not going away just changing names. Though the scripted content may be pared down or done away with. But the library content should remain.

It's kind of like how in most countries, Hulu is just Star under a Disney Plus section

Zaslov seems like he doesn't give a poop so it wouldn't shock me if Flash ends up shelved as well.

If this dude fucks with Harley Quinn or Peacemaker theres gonna be a war. We will align with Darkseid if necessary to stop this new evil villain - Zaslav.

Jesus. 70% of HBO Max's developmental staff is being let go...

This is all so baffling. Wasn't HBO Max doing really well, especially as of late?

Hopefully they let Harley finish the season instead of getting a tax write off for the last 6 episodes or something

:funny:

All this almost feels like some huge prank or something.

Oh, and...

Someone at DC really pissed Discovery off.

Delaying Shazam! Fury of the Gods and affecting my draft would be a step too far, Warner Bros. Don't push it! :nono:

Shazam has a great release date as a counter to Avatar. Why move it?

At least Leslie Grace isn't pulling a Ray Fisher and burning all bridges. She commented:

“Querida familia! On the heels of the recent news about our movie ‘Batgirl,’ I am proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland. I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process! To every Batgirl fan – THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, “my own damn hero!” Batgirl for life!”
