Eternals is going to D+ on 12th Jan so its not returning to theaters. Dune could do well if its re-released specially now that its due for some tech awards.

Won't work. I tell you. Those movies are available on most streaming services and aren't exclusive to cinema viewing. There will always be a few but not too many.

Encanto is also on D+ and still in theaters ;). But yeah that would prevent a lot of people from going.

I do think the other Spider-Man movies could be brought back as retro movies. Could see my theater doing that if possible. They do Harry Potter movies pretty much every year. They're always only $5 so even if they're streaming they could certainly sell a few tickets to those who want to see them on the big screen. In addition to the Maguire and Garfield ones they could do the previous Holland ones. This weekend my theater gets In The Heat of the Night for a retro movie which seems to be for both MLK weekend and the death of Sidney Poitier.

I don't mean they won't make any money or there won't be anyone interested in seeing those but from studios perspective it won't make sense to release because these movies won't make enough for them (I'm thinking Disney animated re-releases).

I don't mean big re-releases like Disney did with stuff like The Lion King and Beauty & The Beast where box office is reported. I just mean theaters bringing back retro movies. Like recently a bunch of Clint Eastwood movies showed in theaters over a month. Or in December mine always shows Elf, How The Grinch Stole Christmas, Polar Express, Christmas Vacation, A Christmas Story, etc... When mine was open during 2020 when new movies weren't releasing it was basically all older movies. While not quite that bad they'll probably have to show one or two here and there to make up for a lack of available product. The Spider-Man movies would be good ones to show. Or if they could get the Star Wars movies. I'd go to those since I've never seen one. I just figure if I'm going to watch them it should be on the big screen. No interest in seeing them at home.

Looking at showtimes seems like this weekend Gucci, Venom (probably to help push over the first) and King Richard seem to be getting theaters again

Can't see West Side Story not getting some type of re-release if the star of it is hosting SNL this weekend.

I was right. Eternals will be back in a couple weeks. On Friday my theaters gets Black Widow back. The following week Shang-Chi returns. Then the week after is Eternals.

I think Moonfall and Jackass have a chance at doing better than expected numbers. Perhaps combining to $40-50m?

I wouldn't be shocked by a $40M OW for Jackass alone.

It's possible isn't it. I was thinking $30m for Jackass and $20m for Moonfall but higher is possible.

Moonfall is something that wouldn't have done great on a packed schedule. Would likely do Geostorm numbers then. Disaster movies just aren't usually as big as they used to be. Unless they star The Rock or something. But even then Skyscraper wasn't very big. I think the lack of competition and a month with only one big movie will likely help it possibly breakout. Might do 20+. But opening with Jackass is just stupid. One of these could have opened a week earlier.

Encanto looks to have blossomed into its own Greatest Showman. Hit Disney + way, way too early but nice to see it high ranking on other charts. It's officially hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, something Let It Go couldn't do. First Disney movie to do it since 1993's A Whole New World!!! Only the second Disney movie to do it ever.

It knocked Adele out of the top spot after 10 weeks! This is a massive achievement. Would not be shocked to see an Encanto 2 that's purely theatrical see a massive spike in box office.

It's album is also #1 on the Billboard 200 and has seen increasing album sales week after week.

Yeah Encanto would have had a crazy run in normal times. Probably like $40/300M or something equally ridiculous.

I'm shocked Let It Go never hit #1. That was everywhere. I don't believe I've heard a single song from Encanto. Let It Go must have had stiffer competition.

Anyway I'm glad this month of box office is over and we'll finally have some movies opening.

Let it Go competed with The Monster, Dark Horse, All of Me, Happy, so yeah a lot of big songs.

We are through the dark ages of the 2022 BO. It wasn't that bad.

There are over 400,000 videos on Tiktok that use the clip of the song from Encanto. Content creators are making dances, creating Encanto in video games, pointing out Easter eggs, making characters out of balloons, and dressing up as the characters.

Clearly Tiktok has helped Encanto's rise on the music charts. Wouldn't be shocked if Disney+ diced 30%-40% from this films total gross if it was able to finish its run.

Encanto is at $93M now. Sing 2 is at $134M. You're right, it easily could have done Sing 2 numbers.

Yep Encanto music is a mini cultural phenomenon at the moment. Will probably end up the #1 album of the year. Also could launch Jessica Darrow into stardom as she currently has the highest-charting solo song from the soundtrack.
