Steal!

Unless it's bad and they just release it in January 2023, but probably every movie at this range has move potential, and there could always be a 2nd replacement draft.

Why are you so excited about this pick, Shack? It doesn't look like a particularly high grosser to me. 40m tops if it doesn't significant oscar noms, and even then probably no more than 60m

30 mil potential sounds pretty good in this draft and replacing a useless movie in Unbreakable Boy, I'd say Taika's post Thor movie would have gone higher in this if it was on the schedule, the only reason I found it was that I was looking at Elisabeth Moss upcoming imdb a few days ago

I think most of the picks in this draft will be pretty low grossing. I'd have just gone Everything Everywhere with first pick.

Post subject:  Re: 2022 Box Office Draft Group 1

As for this group, once again every player has at least one Universal film. publicenemy#1 has the most with six, then Rev with five. However, in this group everyone also has at least one Warner Bros. pick. Riggs is the spread better, with one pick from every studio besides Columbia, and his only double (obviously) coming from Universal with their huge 2022 slate. Of the six movies from Focus Features, half went to Jack Sparrow. Oddly, UA Releasing was again picked by everyone bar one, Rev. publicenemy#1's draft is interesting in that he didn't pick a single movie from Walt Disney, Paramount, Lionsgate, Sony, Focus Features, or Searchlight. The big Lionsgate fan is Flava'd with three picks, with others having just one.

Four out of the six round 12 picks were Universal movies, and of Rev's five Universal picks, three were made consecutively in rounds 9, 10, and 11. Animated movies are split three apiece between publicenemy#1 and Jack Sparrow. There wasn't a single Warner Bros. pick after round 7 (eight in total), and there wasn't a single Searchlight pick before round 8 (three in total). Round 4 was the only round (apart from the final one, but there it's expected when left with the scraps) to have a every pick from a different studio.

My quick analysis...

Winners:
Sonic The Hedgehog 2 - ($175m) More than expected. Thought about the same as the first, but always hoped it would do more. Seems it will finish with about $185m.
The Lost City - ($97m) I had a range of $90-$120m for it, but more as a surprise pick than a guaranteed hit, so I'm glad of its performance, particularly after its opening suggested (at least to me) that it would finish with just $75m. It's had lovely legs and will hit $100m.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0: The Movie - ($29m) Can't argue with $30m for a round 13 pick.

Losers:
Morbius - ($73m) I expected so much more here. I can't believe how much this bombed. I thought, at the very minimum, it would get $115m. The trailer seemed to suggest it would link it up to the Spidey Universe, which it does, but very subtly. My expectation was fueled by that and, alas, I'm severely disappointed.

Conclusion:
I'm lucky so far to have had two of the most leggy films of the year (Sonic 2 and The Lost City), but also unlucky with the biggest flop (Morbius). But I'm feeling optimistic. All to play for. I suppose the biggest worry is films getting moved, but I've seen signs of marketing from Samaritan and The Expend4bles, so all should be good with those. The rest? Beast is a serious concern, as is Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. I've seen nothing from them, though the latter has much more time to start all that.

Jack Sparrow is the first to get to $500 million and the first to have two $100m grossers. But despite these achievements, I don't feel he will win Group 1. I believe that will be Rev.

Rev is currently fourth place, but in my opinion he's the one to beat. All of his picks so far have met or exceeded expectations. For Christ's sake, even his round 11 pick is going to reach $100m or thereabouts, lol. Scream did $80m. And he has Top Gun: Maverick. It's an insanely well picked draft. With those three alone he'll be up to $650 million, then he still has Black Adam, Nope, Jurassic World: Dominion, and Bullet Train, and does anybody really see those failing? Because I don't. The rest of his picks aren't too special but I don't think it matters, and knowing Rev's luck they'll probably break out anyway. He'll have over $1.2 billion with ease, with seven out of 13 picks firing on all cylinders.

One thing I always find interesting is the latter round picks breaking out. Rev obviously wasn't confident about The Bad Guys making $100m, and no amount of him claiming he knew it all along will convince me (not that he has claimed that), because he left it until round 11 and picked She Said before it. So as far as it being a great pick, I'm skeptical. But it's definitely a valuable and lucky pick, and you need luck on your side with this game.

Here's something I'm a little concerned with:

Samaritan, The Expendables 4, and Creed III all coming out this year. Now, the latter doesn't have Stallone but it's still a "Stallone project" per se by virtue of him having created the universe. I'm not sure of his input. Maybe there's nothing besides an executive producer credit, but still it's a lot of films for one person to have out in a three-month span. So my worry is that maybe one will depart 2022, and I suspect the most likely candidate would be Creed III as I haven't seen anything about it yet. At least for Samaritan it's finished and there's new images being released and Stallone was doing radio press for it, etc., and The Expendables 4 is also finished and has had a poster out at CinemaCon. You kind of get the sense both of those are in the early stages of their pre-launch, but does Creed III even have a synopsis and casting completed?

round 7-13 picks I had little to zero confidence :funny:

crap could easily go downhill for me starting this weekend with a 70% drop for TGM. Then JW:D opens with only $150m. NOPE & Bullet Train tanking. lol leaving my only hope being Black Adam :hahaha: boxoffice gods giveth and taketh away

Rev has gotten a little lucky by having all of his top picks stay in 2022. Top Gun in the second round was an inspired pick though and he deserves to win just for that.

It was hard for me picking it over Lightyear :wub2: which will probably do just as good
