The Rock re-charged the Furious franchise, re-imagined a mid level movie like Jumanji ($100M) to a major global franchise ($400M+) and is now in a superhero movie where he plays a villain?

They should just start printing $$$ now.

Shazam had good reviews and WoM and while it did well it didn't do too well like Venom. Rock is definitely an interesting choice and should give it a boost but it still seems a little off to me. The first Shazam went into comedy route hard which took away focus from a lot of superhero stuff, if they do the same with Rock it might not work. We'll see

I think the Rock could get more to Hancock levels though, as it’ll probably go darker and the cooler antihero route, which could play well for the third Shazam film, if it’s a VS film

Most films with Rock are already inflated these days and come with an uncertainity of outopening predictions so I believe there will be one or two people who make bullish predictions for this.

Feeling around 65m OW, 180m total for this. Looks as uninteresting as Shazam did but with a slight boost for the Rock's involvement

Which will be a disappointment, imo, considering people think The Rock is the biggest entertainer in Hollywood.
He sure gets paid like he is :lol:

I wonder if the current box office drought will buoy Black Adam as it did for Spider-Man: No Way Home last December and Top Gun: Maverick this summer. I reckon we could be looking at a higher-than-expected opening for it, but then it's probably going to be rubbish so it will have Venom legs. Something like $115 million opening, and $240 million total.

I'm so sick of seeing this trailer. It's with everything. I don't blame theaters for showing it though. It's the next big movie release unless I'm forgetting something. For that alone I hope it does great.

I really can't see it doing much more than Shazam, maybe Shang-Chi Eternals numbers at best. Looks like just another DC film that happens to have the Rock this time

That's a pretty huge range, lol. Shazam! did $140 million and Shang-Chi did $225 million.

By the time it comes around people will be gagging for a blockbuster, and it's still SEVEN weeks away. That's its main advantage, I would say. But your formula of 'regular DC movie + The Rock' is already enough for it to make Eternals numbers.

This movie BETTER be good, because it would have cleaned up had it held its late July release.

The image of the Rock flying and wrangling with fighter jets should be an instant selling point.

That was my sense as well. The colors and atmospherics scream Justice League. Not a fan of the way DC does CGI either. I hope the film is good and continues the streak post The Batman.

I do sort of admire how the marketing hasn't fixated on Dwayne Johnson. His name isn't on the poster. Black Adam is the focus, as it should be. Dwayne is just playing a role. But I also don't sense much buzz for the film. I expect it will perform similar to a Green Lantern or Ant-Man level movie.

Presales are weak so far. i am thinking 55/130 run for now. Hope it does final week of presales rush like what Venom 2 did last year. Then it can go higher. But I am not going to predict that until we see signs for the same.
