If Dune manages to not drop over 60% then that's good.

Awful for Last Night in Soho. Sad. And although Halloween Kills is having an ok drop this weekend it looks like it may miss $100m. Any other films that opened around 49m and miss 100m? Eek.

Awful weekend. Neither the holdovers did well noted the openers did well. Dune would be very close to 60% drop if it manages to stay above the mark. Last Night in Soho should have done better. MHA won't hit double digits at this rate.

You realize Sunday is going to almost be a non day. Like Super Bowl Sunday. Halloween might do well though, but the rest will be like the day doesn’t exist.

Could they have picked a worse weekend for Dune to come out? Right after two big openers, next weekend is Halloween and everyone is either partying or chaperoning their kids trick or treating, and then Eternals is direct competition the week after.

At least they already gave the go-ahead to the sequel, can't backtrack now.

Sure they can, remember WWZ2, Girl With The Dragon Tattoo 2, Edge of Tomorrow 2. All 3 made more money then Dune will, but Legendary did get paid though, so.

Why a sequel was never in doubt

But WB can always drop distribution. Kind of what happened with Narnia or Divergent.

Yeah LNIS doing beginning pandemic #s is really awful.

Dune will probably have a crap drop next week losing IMAX but maybe it'll push to $100m barely

Unless it can get some solid late holds or a re-release looks like Dune may top out in the $90-95m region.

Halloween, Bond and Venom had good drops but for openers, expansion, speciality and more recent holdovers it wasn't a great weekend.

I feel like it could get an IMAX re-release if it gets a ton of Oscar nominations. If they can push it to $100m they will.

Either way cancelling this sequel at this point would be chaos. It has a very good chance of seeing a healthy bump in grosses and WB benefits long-term from streaming/home video sales from having both parts in their catalogue.

They didn’t cancel it. They announced it, the film can stop making tomorrow and they’d be still fine. Re releases are unnecessary. Especially if the sequel can increase, WB’s go to excuse is pandemic and streaming for 2021. It has no chance at any real awards.

Not a bad idea. Normally you'd say "you can't do that because it is available at home", but its available from home now lol.
