I'm thinking Dune is gonna flop. Maybe I'll be wrong but HBO Max is gonna make it gross probably closer to TSS than $100m.

I feel like Dune will be closer to GvK than TSS

Dune's early reviews from Venice are coming and seem very strong though THR and Variety didn't seem to like it.

Feel like Zendaya's 100M+ followers are going to be a huge plus in this movie. She's going to bring this a lot of buzz outside of the fans of the original and Denis' usually films.

I really don't understand this decision from Paramount at all. The movie going business is not dead, it very weird that this news comes on the heels of what could be the biggest opening of the year thus far.

Overseas markets are in worse shape now. Only F9 grossed over 500m with big part from China. Fate grossed over billion dollars in just overseas markets. BW has not even hit 200m and outside Japan or China(which is restricted), grosses are not that impressive. MI BO was driven by OS markets and so they will wait for bigger vaccine push in Asia and other markets before opening their movies.

Hmm sure but there have been staggered release strategy well before pandemic specially for OS markets so they could have released it in States

Could Evan Hansen pull A Greatest Showman? It's buzz is strong.

Not a fan of the Dear Evan Hansen musical, I can't say if it would have more appeal than In the Heights.

The trailer for DEH makes the premise seem super unappealing. Idk it has its fanbase but I'm expecting something in the low teens for opening.

Looks like Disney got the message from Shang Chi!

Disney announced on Friday that upcoming 2021 films “Eternals,” “The Last Duel,” “West Side Story,” “Ron’s Gone Wrong” and “The King’s Man” will get exclusive, 45-day theatrical windows before moving to digital platforms.

Meanwhile, the animated musical “Encanto” will play in theaters for 30 days starting on Nov. 24, before coming to Disney Plus.

That's great to hear. Hopefully WB gets the message as well.

It's going to be harder for WB to do this because wasn't seeing their 2021 slate on HBO Max part of the package/deal? What would they tell their customers, especially those that bought the yearly subscription?

Far from a guarantee but theres a small chance that No Time To Die, expected to be the biggest tentpole of October, could be outopened by Venom, Halloween and Dune

Dune is not going to open above Bond. It's a LOCK!

Even in normal circumstances Dune was not going to open above Bond. It has good reviews but none of the proven starpower. Denis had Blade Runner open to $32m with arguably better starpower. Other than the concept and budget I don't think it has that huge of a fanbase as well. It was never going to be a big grosser but in normal times its OS grosses would have been BIG.

Looks like Bond was the biggest disappointment of October, and it still has a shot at 700-750m WW with China coming up.

Looking like Eternals, Ghostbusters and Encanto can keep the Gravy train going

Doesn’t look like the bunching of releases in October did any substantial difference. It wasn’t crowding that hurt Bond for example.
