Hoping Elemental keeps chugging along. Interested to see this weekend's theater counts. A drop in the 30s this weekend would be terrific.

Elemental managed to make $1.16M on Thursday. It's losing 500+ theaters too but a 31% decrease from last Thursday isn't as bad as everyone else. Total gross is at $131.43M. If it has that level of drop for the weekend it would get to $6.23M this weekend ($137.66M total). Here's hoping it stays above $6M.

Elemental made $24M worldwide and now at $356.6M globally. $18.3M overseas was down 35.1%.

Domestic: $137.2M (4.64X multiplier from $5.8M weekend)
Overseas: $219.4M

Elemental could have another $28M domestic for $165M total. Would give it $384M with holdover overseas markets still coming in. Can this make a run for $500M globally?

Elemental recovered well from the weekend after that 37% drop. It's Monday was down 24%. PTA was down only 9.8%!

Elemental $949,136 -24% $138,106,455

If Elemental follows its dailies over the last 7 days, it could be at $145.87M by Sunday (7th weekend). That would give Elemental a 4.93X multiplier and become their 2nd leggiest film ever!

If it pulls a $4.35M weekend next week and then a 6X multiplier, would finish with $167.6M. A lot depends on if it gets a big hit from TMNT and The Haunted Mansion. Expecting as its a Disney movie, THM may help its hold.

Elemental is now at a 4.75X multiplier. Some tidbits:

-38th leggiest $25M+ OW summer film ever. Likely to rise to #21 if it finishes with $170M (5.74X).

-4th leggiest $25M+ summer animated film behind Shrek (6.32X), Tarzan (5.0X) and Finding Nemo (4.84X). Will rise to #2 behind only Shrek shortly.

-5th leggiest $25M+ OW summer film in the last 10 years behind Crazy Rich Asians (6.58X), We're The Millers (5.69X), TGM (5.67X), and Elvis (4.84X). Will rise to #4 shortly past Elvis. If Elemental gets past $168.5M it will pass Millers and TGM to rise to #2.

-If Elemental gets to $170M (5.74X), will be the 6th leggiest $25M+ OW summer film in the last 20 years behind Crazy Rich Asians (6.58X), The Help (6.52X), Wedding Crashers (6.50X), Bridesmaids (6.44X), Hangover (6.17X).

Elemental will still be in 2,000 theaters this weekend but with TMNT opening mid week it'll probably lose a lot next week. Idk if it'll get to $160m but we'll see

So $300m+ without Japan should happen for overseas. Hopefully it does enough in Japan to get it to 500m+

Elemental did peter out in the last few weeks, but still has one of the most unsung turnarounds since Puss in Boots

Big Disney news, apparently they have brought back Kevin Mayer and Tom Staggs, both of whom were once considered possible successors.

Clearly Chapek's impact will take a few years to undo so very intriguing development of bringing the old gang back together again. Seems like 1 of these two could be the next CEO.

Sort of taking a tint out of Iger tbh. He didn't think the two were right to be successors but now needs their help.

My worry is still the need for original content. Getting rid of John Lesseter was a mistake that I wonder if they will rescind on next?

RIP Elemental. A great run and recovery from an under $30M OW to Pixar's leggiest film in 28 years and $150M+ total. Just a lot of competition and theater loss so essentially done at this point other than a Labor Day bump.

Yeah I think without strong competition this could've got to $170m. Still an impressive run and with overseas not a huge loser.

One of the lesser known success stories of the summer was this film’s legs. Up there with Puss in Boots. I wonder what the YouTubers will say about this one

Pixar's president has confirmed that Elemental is out of the red theatrically!

Quote:
We have a lot of different revenue streams, but at the box office we’re looking at now, it should do better than break even theatrically. And then we have revenue from streaming, theme parks and consumer products. This will certainly be a profitable film for the Disney company.

Elemental will get tons of D+ viewings and increase people’s positive feelings towards Pixar, it’s definitely a success now

Elemental made $5.1M down just 13.6% overseas. Now has $316.9M there and $151.7M domestic has a $468.6M tally. It's going to be an ever slow process but its slowly inching closer and closer to $500M. Maybe it can pull a miracle on Labor Day.

Elemental now at $478,739,994!

$4.3M overseas down -15.7%. $1,558,000 domestic over the 4days.

Just $21.26M to go. Looks like the Elemental push probably mattered more for a $500M worldwide total vs reaching a domestic milestone.

Guess getting Elemental $500M+ > TLM over $300M domestic.

Makes sense. Elemental got ripped so badly for flopping OW that a $500M global total is a big win. TLM at $298M still looks a lot better than Elemental did early on.

Disney has announced Elemental is coming to Disney+ next week so domestic run should be over by Thursday more or less.

Also read this deep dive into what happened between Chapek and Iger and its among the best, most insightful reads I've seen on the whole debacle. Recommend it when you have a bit of time.

Ultimately, Iger was undermining Chapek non-stop and Chapek wasn't taking the time to understand the culture he was in. Oddly enough, as bad as Chapek was for Disney I'm slightly sympathetic to him by the end of reading it because it feels like he was set up to fail to begin with but his inability to understand the situation and culture made matters worse.

Also, you think when leaders get to that level they have some decorum but I was surprised to see the impact Strange World (one of the final nails in Chapek's run) and Mean Girls randomly had here. Chapek puts himself in a Cady type role taking on Regina George and company. :funny:

Bob Iger is a sociopath as seen by his comments about the strike so not surprised

Everyone knew Chapek was a fall guy. It was pretty obvious. We knew the company was going to take a hit in early 2020. Surprisingly, it did very well during the pandemic years, but this might have been because of over inflated stocks during the early days of Disney Plus. Things are course correcting now, and things will be good again, but the company probably won’t get back to the heights of the late 2010s for a while.
