Re: Bond or Spider-Man, who will win the year?
Dang. In normal times Spidey would do $500m+ domestic I feel.
Definitely has potential to be the first $300m+ grosser since what, Rise of Skywalker? Yeesh

Re: Bond or Spider-Man, who will win the year?
Spider-Man has pretty huge potential. Hopefully things change by the time it's released for it to fulfill (most) of that potential.

I made the mistake last time of thinking Spidey would explode. We'll see. It will be big hit no doubt though

Yes it will do $300m+ but $500m is a bit too much.

Re: Bond or Spider-Man, who will win the year?
Spider-man moves have been overestimated big time for past few movies. I remember homecoming had way bigger expectations and far from home post endgame had 250m+ 6 day OW expectations. It did not even hit 40m OD !!!. I dont see why this movie has 500m potential. During COVID hitting 300m is crazy strong. I dont think situation will get back to normal plus being holidays its BO will be spread out beyond rabid marvel fans.

Re: Bond or Spider-Man, who will win the year?
the last two had overestimated openings but then held better than expected.
But No Way Home is more akin to Civil War than the last two Spider Mans IMO. A concept even non spiderman fans will be interested in.

Re: Bond or Spider-Man, who will win the year?
No one predicted $500m here. publicenemy#1 said “in normal times,” which I think we agree means not where we’re at (covid).
Further, “in normal times,” I don’t think it’s that outrageous. This version of Spiderman has seen growth from the first to the second, whereas the previous two series all dropped from movie to movie. It’s possible this one would be building back to the full potential of the franchise (glimpsed I think by 2002’s $404m, which adjusts to $625m+). Add hype from the mash-up / multiverse concept.... could be a banger!
(that said, I’m still underpredicting everything, so I’m not expecting anything close to $300m because chaos)

Tobey Maguire footage has been leaked (Sony is really bad at keeping anything secret!):

Re: Bond or Spider-Man, who will win the year?
Yeah Spidey is gonna be huge. Pre-pandemic this would've done $160m+ OW. Now even I think $120m is possible if lockdowns don't happen.

Shang Chi I think will do 60m this weekend which is good enough to keep theaters alive for now. Real test will be the next variant that will likely hit America in November.

Feels like if we go from one variant to the next in perpetuity, people will just become numb to it all. Those living in fear of the virus will just accept it as a way of life, the "new normal" as it's touted.

Re: Bond or Spider-Man, who will win the year?
There is C.1.2 which is supposedly vaccines are not effective. So far its only in South Africa but who knows where things will be in 2-3 months. That said this thread is not a question at all. No way Bond will be close to Spidey though I am more excited for final Craig movie. if Bond does 600m WW its great. Spidey will easily gross more than that.

I don't know, if this is everywhere, but here in Germany, 007 will be 3D-007...

Re: Bond or Spider-Man, who will win the year?
That's a weird decision. None of the movies even animation ones are releasing in 3D anymore here. Not sure who would want to see this in 3D. Bond is a franchise that's great in 2D and has been for years..

Re: Bond or Spider-Man, who will win the year?
It appears Dune has good presales in multiple european markets. So if Europe is anywhere close to its normal BO potential, its great news for Bond.

I wonder if theaters closing will impact Spidey's run, but with this opening it's an easy win.
