I will wait to see how much GvK does over the 5-day but I believe $100m 5-day is still a bit on the high end.

Tom Cruise will save cinema.

Don’t think this will do that much better than M:I but in 5 days I could see 75-85m.

That's really surprising given that it was in prime spot to be released...now they are just being stupid.

A weird move, unless there’s more to it. Like scrapping their 45-day window plan and putting A Quiet Place 2 on Paramount Plus day one to boost subscribers. If that were the case, they may want more than a months worth of data before doing the same with a much higher budgeted film.

Boys, you're underestimating the fact that most theaters in Latin America and Europe are still closed (and will be for a while)... If a studio wants serious money internationally, they have to wait...

Yeah, A Quiet Place made the majority of its money in the U.S. so releasing the sequel now is a lot less of a loss than it would be to release a Tom Cruise film in July.

The movie was co-produced by Tencent, a media company based in China. Its script likely had the stamp of approval from the Chinese government before filming. And according to the news, there were changes made in costume choice to appease China. I think some of the "Fuck Yeah America" crowd would not be pleased about seeing the movie if they knew that.

I would have been in for under $125M in the before times. The original Top Gun does not hold up at all and is now probably more associated with Tarantino’s rant about its homoeroticism. This one ain’t gonna draw a big nostalgia crowd, it’ll just be Cruiseheads who want to see him do crazy stunts.

Lady Gaga will be releasing the ballad song on this on May 3rd so looks to be an early Oscar contender.

The original movie's Take My Breath Away won best song at the Oscars and Gaga's A Star Is Born "Shallow" has already taken it as well.

Feel this will definitely help the movie build more buzz over May, especially if the song is good.

I mean, maybe. It's being marketed like M:I in the sky. Didn't work for The Mummy but seems like a better fit for Top Gun.

It will have several weeks without tentpoles before it to help it.

I think this may get a lot of the older crowd in the theater. As for people who go to the movies regularly (18-34), mmmm. I think it should still go over $125m unless it opens below $30m.

I haven't seen the trailer in theaters once, nor have I seen a single TV or online ad. Still a month before release, so enough time, sure, but seems unusually quiet for such a high-profile film.

Hmmm I've seen the trailer pretty often. The new one was attached to Fantastic Beasts, Unbearable Talent and Northman

I think $125m is a good over/under. I’ll say under, too. Could be I’m simply nowhere near the target audience, but I can’t help but wonder… who wants this movie?

This movie is pure escapism so think that will still appeal to many audiences. Also things that move Fast franchise crowd. For Tom Cruise do return to a role 36 years later though I'd hope it's a masterpiece and not an IJ4.

I stand by all this.

But... with the way the schedule has worked out, $125M has become reasonable. Mid 40s opening and no competition for a few weeks will put it right around there.

Gaga is doing a ballad as a soundtrack single, out next week. The 80s film memorably produced "Take My Breath Away" as a soundtrack hit. Maybe we will see a Cruise/Gaga film in the near future.

after seeing opening day PS its more likely to hit that number over 4 day weekend than missing it overall. 80's nostalgia definitely is going to help this one. I would say 120/275m run for now. Hopefully its a better movie than original which I did not like.
