Re: Black Panther 2 predictions
Bassett is always a highlight. The sober and emotional tone should help this - as there has been a backlash of recent MCU films which lack weight due to being over saturated with infantile humour.

Did you hear Doom will NOT be the villain in the first FF movie but he will show up in the post credit scene.

I don't think the "general audience" cares about a social media influencer. Movie trailers and the movie poster will have more influence on the first weekend box office.

Can't believe this is 8 days away. For the sake of the industry, hope it exceeds expectations. There ain't much else left this month and really till Avatar 2 so if OW is lower maybe Thanksgiving can help.

Re: Black Panther 2 predictions
I'm not seeing huge hype for it myself. At least nothing that suggests an opening near/over $200m. Currently expecting ~$140/150 million.
Now, I didn't see or sense anything with Top Gun: Maverick either, and look what happened there.

Rihanna's song is so boring that it might have deflated hype for the movie. Makes it seem like the entire movie will be sad. Kendrick's soundtrack for the first one was huge and a major part of its marketing. Let you know that you were not only in for a ride, but a culturally relevant one at that.

I agree with you completely. Rihanna's song will certainly not help it's box office. On the other hand, the film will gross enough without her. Still, it reminds me of Billie Eilish's No Time To Die...

Yeah I have to admit was expecting another song from her after a 6 year break. Not much hype from that as it's probably been overwhelmed by Taylor Swift.

Re: Black Panther 2 predictions
Presales are still below Thor and well below Dr Strange(that and NWH were mega sellers). I think it will open above Thor considering Veteran's day. But its gloomy trailers might keep away some of its usual MCU Audience. Hopefully reviews are way better than DS2 and Thor 4 and so will have better legs. That said MCU movies have been quite frontloaded due to its box office driven by enormous fanbase. Plus its release is so wide that its able to burn off demand big time.

Re: Black Panther 2 predictions
Early box office data. This looks like it's trending in the right direction. Assume most of these tickets are for opening weekend so should already have nearly $65M in the bank by Thursday. Quote: As of Sunday, Wakanda Forever‘s advance ticket sales in the U.S. stood at $45 million, which is more than Thor: Love and Thunder but behind the (frontloaded) Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, according to Disney insiders. By Friday, advance ticket sales for the Wakanda Forever number could be in the $60 million-$65 million range, which would rank above the $55 million collected by the first Black Panther.

Re: Black Panther 2 predictions
First time in awhile paying for movie theater tickets. Wow! $17 for a single standard ticket and $26 for 3D! Sheesh. That’s over $100 for a family if they want to see it in 3D.
Last time I purchased movie tickets was, I think for Black Phone, but I don’t remember it being this expensive.

So it only managed 31 days above $1 million. The first did 52 if I'm not mistaken.

It will add a few more over Christmas I'd say but yes certainly a more subdued run.

That was predicted expecting Chadwick to be there. I wonder what Lecter would have predicted for a BP movie without Chadwick !!! They did market the tribute to chadwick a lot. Still I think this movie greatly over performed considering the loss of Chadwick. I wonder what would BP3 will gross. Its probably not happening until 2026 considering they have planned out until 2025(secret wars). Plus i expect Dr Strange 3 and Shang Chi 2 to come before this and there are others like XMen, Blade etc still to be slotted in. Letitia should be there in Avengers and they have to take it from there.

Re: Black Panther 2 predictions
So all-in-all this was a failure, yeah?
The first made $1.34 billion in 2018 and reached 2nd worldwide for the year behind only Infinity War, but crucially beating Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The sequel is struggling in 6th place and is finding it hard to reach $850 million, and it is behind Jurassic World: Dominion by quite a margin. I don't see any way to not chalk this up as a failure. I'm not talking about whether it is a financial success, just that it has regressed. That's failure in my book.
What happened to the days when sequels were almost always bigger than their predecessors?
