Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
No word on if that includes any on yesterday's grosses for MI4, because the article mentions that it made 2 million as it moved into 2400 theatres last night (apart from IMAX), so it's really unclear whether they are counting that or not. Way to go Paramount on making things unnecessarily murky. Also worth noting in the article: Quote: some box office observers believe Ghost Protocol will do north of $6 million

These numbers are very encouraging for Alvin. Could be heading for Yogi Bear like legs...

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Good numbers overall and I don't think MI4 will have made only $4m in expansion for that $2m to be added right now. I see MI4 beating DT today and impress in the numbers with the additional $2m.
Those numbers are definitely good for Alvin but unlike the squeakuel it is trailing behind Sherlock Holmes in dailies which might not be very good for it. Though good news is that it will hold off Tintin and be the first choice among younger audience. Unless it surprises and gets exceptional legs I don't see how it can save a $100m drop from the last two entries.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Sherlock is not bad, it made 40 million in its opening weekend but it will make 20 million on 4 weekdays. If it keeps a solid hold this weekend and next it should pass 150 million in the end.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
If they had opened Alvin on Christmas it might not have dropped much from the second's opening. But it was best some of these movies opened sooner because it's already plenty crowded.

Alvin will be Yogi Bear.
That was one weird box office run last year.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Having Alvin and TinTin open together or Tintin opening before would have actually been bad for Alvin. Plus Christmas being on Sunday it would still have dropped more than Squeakquel then as well. Now I am not saying this was a right place for it but something similar to DT's opening would have been much better for it (assuming that TinTin would have moved then).

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Well Dec 25th to Jan 2nd better see some epic grosses. Looking back the last time the release dates were the same, Narnia and King Kong did really well based on their openings. Also looking back, on Dec 26th Boxing day, films will actually increase from X-Mas. http://boxofficemojo.com/daily/chart/?s ... -26&p=.htm

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Also DT is a 3 hour movie and has fewer showtimes and therefore you see more sellouts.
Not bad for the top 3, they will continue with big numbers for the next 10 days now.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Tintin did admirably but given the big names involved in it and OS numbers, I see a little bit of frontloading for it so overall not a very good number for it.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
I don't see the Tintin # as being particularly good. Interestingly, it is roughly equivalent to Sinbad's start adjusted for ticket prices, and failed to beat either 9 or Peter Pan. It needs all the wom it can get.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Wow, considering Mi4 and Dragon should both drop tomorrow, and Sherlock stayed above 4 million and should increase, this could be the tightest weekend ever.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Yeah but only Cheaper by the Dozen 2 and Fun with Dick and Jane opened on Wednesday, and they barely increased on Thursday. I don't think they are the best comparisons.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
MI4 will drop simply because Paramount added the $2m from Tuesday night. It should increase from the $6m figure it actually earned on Wednesday, but drop from $8m. Dragon Tattoo got its $1.6m Tuesday correctly separated out, so it should not drop that much today either. I'm thinking $5-5.5m.

Re: Early Wednesday Numbers
Mission is looking good should do well over the next 10+ days.
Looking at next year, the Holidays will be better placed, meaning we will have normal weekends and then epic weekdays.
