Post HSX Discussion Thread
I'm not sure how much interest there is on this board in HSX, the Hollywood Stock Exchange. But now that the Box Office Mojo Derby is dead, I've finally decided to give HSX a try.

I know at least a few KJ members play the game, and perhaps other members of this forum might be interested as well now that their box office predicting energies can no longer be channeled into the defunct BOM Derby. HSX faced extinction not too long ago similar to what has happened to the BOM Derby, yet it has continued to survive.

Here's a little info for those with no clue, and I just started so I know very little myself. The game is free, for starters - you just register with a user name and password. The idea is basically that it's a game that simulates a real stock exchange, only all the securities (i.e. companies) that are traded are mostly movies or filmmakers. You start out with $2,000,000 in monopoly money and use it to buy shares, or other more complicated financial products, of movies based on whether you think they are under or over-priced (based on your box office predictions of opening weekend, four week total, etc), and the aim is to build the most valuable portfolio you can.

The site has pretty much all the terms and rules defined, however it might be helpful for those here interested in playing to have a thread to discuss how to play or otherwise to post their accomplishments as was done in the derby thread.

So if there's any interest, here's a thread.

I'm not sure about Tintin, but I'm leaning toward short as well.

Titanic 3D is quite a bargain right now.

I disagree. Titanic stopped being cool eleven years ago, and with 3D on the wane I think its a real stretch to ask audiences to wear those annoying friggin' glasses during a 3+ hour drama that's on cable every week.

I know, I know, its James Cameron, patron saint of 3D, but still. Lion King worked because it catered to a wholly different crowd.

What section of the audience is dying to see Titanic in 3D? Two thirds of the film is just people standing around exchanging stilted dialogue in cabins and in dining rooms and against the occasional state-of-the-art CGI backdrop--state-of-the-art in 1997, that is.

Thank you Flash and IJ5. I've made 6.3M from shorting IJ5 and 13.4M so far from Flash so the worse the box office does the better I seem to do on HSX.

What a blast from the past. I remember HSX. Lol

Those were the times. Along with Lee’s Movie Inflation Adjuster site, IMDb forums, Boxoffice Reports, BOM, Time Pathfinder Movie Forums.

From that list WOKJ is the only one happily still chugging along from those pre-2010 days!

I passively started playing over the pandemic again but this time of year really is the best for easy money. Some of the smaller Christmas movie openers are WAY undervalued.

Anyone But You is currently at H$39.98 for its 4 week total. It will be at by tomorrow with another 10 days.
