That's why when Chinese Government blocked Japanese Products for three years because of Senkaku Islands dispute then upon re-opening Stand By Me Doraemon just blowed up &soon Your Name took the all-time highest grossing Japanese Film was taken immediately on other year.. slowly it settled down. But after CoVid-19, Anime got a new boost with Demon Slayer, Evangelion, Jujutsu Kaisen, Red and now along with past running popular work Doraemon &Conan Film, Japanese content are getting more acceptance reaching new heights Well, I don't hate Chinese Film - Ne Zha &Wandering Earth is still my favourite & recent DC3 &Hi Mom were also good movies |

The new Jackie Chan flick didn't do too well, though it did top the box office. Mario did rather poorly. it's crazy that hollywood studios only collect 20%-25% of China's box office gross. So Endgame doing $632 million in China only made Disney around $126-$158 and that's from the 2nd biggest movie of all-time. they make so much less from other films. the deal sucks for Disney since Endgame. is it worth it for hollywood anymore? |

Fast X $145m (6wks) vs. Fast 9 $216m and Hobbs & Shaw $201m. ($392m for FoTF and $390m for Fast 7). Rise of the Beasts $83m (3wks) vs. Bumblebee $170m and The Last Knight $228m. Guardians 3 $89m (8wks) vs Guardians 1 $86m and Guardians 2 $100m. Spider-Verse 2 $48m (4wks) vs. Spider-Verse $62m. Ant-Man 3 $40m vs. Ant-Man $105m and Ant-Man 2 $121m. Black Panther 2 $15m vs Black Panther $105m. They're way down with only Guardians 3 managing to do comparable numbers to its predecessors. And maybe Spider-Verse 2, I don't know what it's projected to finish at after 4 weeks. And then there's the films near the bottom earning $25m or less, even under $10m. Maybe I wasn't noticing China's box-office slowing down or declining for Hollywood in recent years, if that's the reason. Or maybe they haven't fully recovered from COVID yet, plus if there's a poor exchange rate, that's going to really drive the numbers down in a market that does big numbers like China. It's really having an impact on OS/WW totals this year, especially combined with the unfavorable exchange rates in other markets across the globe. China is just a huge chunk of OS/WW totals that it's more noticeable. |

Algren could explain it better but seems there's been alot of anti-American cultural propaganda going on (note how the ones that do well are full of heroic criminals) combined with the ever-growing Chinese film industry being able to put out a near-full slate of releases on their own. I'm assuming the average Chinese moviegoer would rather watch a film made by a Chinese production for a Chinese audience in the same way we Americans prefer American films for Americans. |

It's less than 1% deflation but it's still deflation. But the economy is sluggish at the moment. Foreign investment is pulling out, the chickens have come home to roost in the ponzi scheme they call the real estate sector, and a lot of manufacturing is moving to India and Vietnam and Mexico, so families don't have the disposeable income they used to have. China is a growth economy and a manufacturing economy, not a high consumption one. If people aren't making as much as last year then things like cinema trips are easy to curb. Cinema is generally a cheap leisure activity in China thanks to coupons and apps, so grosses might have taken a knock but nothing too wild. As Flava'd said there's the usual anti-[anything foreign] that is a staple of the market but I'm not sure to what degree that has intensified in the last few months. I think if you've noticed any downward trends it's probably due to the struggling economy. |

China left Hollywood long ago when reception of Local Films started to overcome Hollywood dominion. Currently, Lost In The Star (Adaption of Soviet Film MouseTrap) has being doing insane numbers with daily numbers increasing insanely with Pre-sales (increase in Weekdays is adnormal). This clearly makes sense that without good reception, films have short life with Holiday release by taking the case of Hidden Blade &Born To Fly (Pre-sales inflated heavily by fans) Answering to Corpse, yes like Japan, China has Exchange Rate problem or else Suzume would have been at $129M and so for rest. |

Unsurprisingly Meg 2 opened at #1 with $53m, but that still feels low compared to what a nationalistic action movie starring Wu Jing should do. The Chinese economy really is shot. It's also ironic that a water-based action movie comes out amid the worst floods to hit China in 150 years. I doubt many people in Hebei and Beijing are gagging to see it. Barbie falls 71% in its third weekend. Cume is $31.6m and it won't reach $40m. Dead Reckoning is at $47.6m after its fourth weekend. Won't reach $50m. Rise of the Beasts did $91m. Its run is over. Elemental did $15.8m. China is like an alternate reality to the rest of the world. |

Expend4bles opened to $3.66m on Friday. A Haunting in Venice opened to $600k. A pretty dire turnout for both, but at least we knew China would give Expend4bles a #1 opening. |
