Looks like WOM is kinda weak, as a 33M OD should have been good for 100M OW or close to that even when taking WD into account. Its Sunday drop is very worrying. |

Yeah, I was surprised to see it actually drop on Sunday. Then again it was raining a lot on Sunday (not sure about the whole country but in Guangdong it was, which is a big cinema-going area). |

Friday numbers are in. Captain Marvel had $5.8m (#2) for its second Friday for an 8-day total of just $113m. Alita: Battle Angel is up to $130m. Green Book is up to $53.5m after a $2.1m (#3) third Friday. New release More Than Blue is at #1 with $7.6m. |

Well the box office at the moment is fucking lame in China for imports. Shazam! opens with a $30 million weekend. Not even as much as Captain Marvel's first day. Bohemian Crapsody is up to $13 million after 17 days! lol Dumbo is up to $18 million after its 2nd weekend. |

But BR had some limited release. Is 17 million not good for whatever limited number of theatres it is in? |

Personally, I don't think $13 million is good for any film in China. It's such a huge market that such a little number like that cannot really be painted up as good in any way. But you are right that it was a limited release. It had less than 60k screenings in its OW. Either way, people were not exactly clamouring to see it and the distributor should have put it wider (they certainly advertised for a larger release - I saw tons of bus and metro bilboards). Dramatic awards fare can do well in China. Just look at Green Book. |

I really thought BR was gonna do well in China since they have singing voice/xfactor type shows that get 100 million viewers. Oh well. |

It has made $900 million worldwide so don't feel too sorry for it. |

Shazam! isn't doing too well. It's been out for 12 days and only just cracked $40 million. It dropped 83% in its second weekend. Endgame should restore some faith in foreign blockbusters. It's been a while. |

I enjoyed South Park skewering China's censors and Hollywood going out of their way to appease them this week Shockingly, South Park is now banned in China |
