>The First Slam Dunk achieves a seventh-consecutive weekend atop the box office with an excellent hold. I don't know what happened this weekend, but being up over Sat/Sun suggests it had something going on (giveaway and/or stage greeting perhaps). Its seven week admissions are up to 5,671,527. I know it's going to be asked if it can reach ¥10 billion, and I'm still going to say no, or very unlikely, unless Toei provides some sort of bump. (Although judging by this weekend, they did something.) So... let's wait and see.

>Suzume is probably going to start dropping pretty gradually now that its outside of the holidays and is skewing a bit too young (teens/college-aged people) to probably post any further great/excellent holds. It's going to exceed ¥13 billion, but reaching Top Gun: Maverick (¥13.55 billion) or Jujutsu Kaisen 0 (¥13.8 billion) to become the #2#3 film of 2022 is unlikely unless, again, the distributor decides to do something to boost it there. Maybe more importantly than aiming for #2 or #3 for the year is targeting 10 million admissions. It's up to 9,398,146 admissions now. It should get to 10 million on its own, I believe, but Toho should keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't fall just sort like JJK0 did.

>Ichikei's Crow debuted in third place, selling a respectable 176,690 admissions over the weekend across 332 screens. This is a solid debut post-New Year, and should give Toho an early ¥1 billion earner in the calendar year.

>Avatar: The Way Of Water slips to fourth place. After four weeks, its admissions are up to 1,903,065. We've talked about how disappointing its performance is, and with its run possibly ending, or at least seeing a significant decline on February 3rd when it's likely to lose most if not all its screens, it's probably just going to finish above the ¥4 billion ($31/32 million) milestone and 2.2/2.3 million admissions, which is down 74% (revenue) and 78% (admissions) from its predecessor's original run.

>One Piece Film Red is back inside the Top 10 in its 24th week, rising from #12 last weekend based on my estimates. It saw an increase, but its weekend gross wasn't released last weekend, so I don't know how much. Its last day is January 29th, so Toei is heavily marketing it in these final couple weeks. If anyone knows if Toei has a final farewell giveaway planned for the final weekend, let me know!

Do you have a source for this? So that way I can use it for reference and certain websites.

Showtime Analytics for Global Gross and Bunka News for Japan Gross.

Ah I see so that would be what in dollars? It was $18.5 million when I think it was said to be at ¥2.49 billion so is that like $18.7 million?

I'm not really sure what this Showtime Analytics is though I heard mention of it before.

If they're saying it's made $99.6 million is that a number just converted from yen? When was the figure meant to be as of? Because it came out in China recently so it would have put the movie over $100 million if it weren't including it.

Based on numbers given by Deadline and other US sites over time I believed the movie to be around $95 million at best so where the extra would have come from is something I'll unfortunately never know.

As of Sun - China didn't added much ($1.41M as of Sun). Before that it was ending at $98.2M with Japanese Gross at $18.7M.

As an advice, you should not follow western sites for Asian Film tracking unless you know their length of area access you can see Deadline Hollywood didn't have correct figures for Demon Slayer just reported over $500M where as it's standing at $518M WW (Forget about that BOM didn't bother to update it)

BTW, here is link for login - https://showtimeanalytics.com/

Data Transparency is high but they haven't India & Philippines numbers. India is ¥40M ($490K) but not sure about Philippines.

They have a giveaway this weekend I believe, was advertised as with the goal of "hitting 20b" or something but I don't really see that happening either way. Would need a crazy surge even just to catch howl in 2 weeks.

By the way, just saw that the stage greeting shows for sat/sun for the DS special are going live this midnight for PS already. Won't say much about demand given how these are usually the first to go, but it's really early.

If in the future Disney decides to give distribution rights to a Japanese distributor and if its Toho, would that make them even more of a monopoly than they already are on top of owning the busiest Cinema Chain? Could another Japanese company like Toei get them instead or just Toho?

I see...so before China it was at $98.2 million. Then it's made $1.4 million there and that's why it's saying it's at $99.6 million as of Sunday?

And that figure does not include India or Phillipines. So with India at least the movie should be past $100 million? Is this all correct.

I'm not gonna be to access that site. Are you able to see the total box office gross for Battle of God's, Resurrection F and Broly? Because I'm sure someone said Broly was at like $130+ million.

I take it the figure on Showtime then would be most accurate figure available?

TOHO and movix instantly hit with a queue despite being a really early lift and stage greeting only. Huh.

Thank you, guys! Does look like they're aiming for ¥20 billion after all. Will also agree it looks hard, but I recall how those final Evangelion giveaways gave it increases in the thousand percentages, so certainly won't rule out the possibility.

Kanroji, ER?

I don't think any other distributor would have the buying power that Toho has. They got Universal and Paramount for the same reason I imagine. And from someone looking to sell (let's say Disney), they're likely to go for Toho too given not just the money they'd receive in the deal, but their films are going to do better at the box office under Toho than anyone else too.

It's going to be very interesting to see what it does opening weekend. In total, too, of course, but I imagine the opening is going to be very large. How large? We'll see. No precedent for it.

Will be a good way of testing its popularity these days since there hasn't really been anything to do so in some time.

Yeah - ComScore and Showtime Analytics are the same thing. I wish if numbers were atleast trackable for India &Philippines. So, I am not counting them (might be suspicious)

$131M for Broly, $70M for F &$53M for Battle of Gods

No idea. Whatever presales end up looking like I would expect lower walkups than normal with nature of the film. 1b over the 3days might be a good target (?). Expecting a bit more now since it caused a queue this early on, but still don't really have a clue.

I've noticed. :funny:

I just haven't wanted to jinx it by mentioning it yet just in case it the gradual improvement stalls and/or it goes back up.

I'm not expecting anything near ~¥110/115, but if it can get to ~¥120 by summer, I'd be happy.
