Biggest news this weekend is probably the opening of THE WHALE - should be $0.16m in just 6 theaters on Friday...

BP2 probably $2.85m vs. $2.45m for VIOLENT NIGHT

Curious to see where Violent Night ends up. If it ends up doing $45m+ will probably get a sequel.

Also $30m+ total for the Menu is honestly not bad for how strange the movie is.

Empire of Light is DOA. Those commercials with Olivia yelling were unintentionally funny but the movie's marketing and apparently the movie itself aren't great.

TGM lost 1/3 of its theaters from it's re-expansion last week but its PTA only dropped $3 so at least could get to $720M/$1.49B and if it gets serious Oscar attention, bring it back!

The Whale opened a lot better than I expected. Sadie + Fraser's buzzy role + comeback story could really resonate. Seems like it has lots of momentum to help in it's expansion.

Spoiler Alert flopped. It's always interesting how fanbases are and clearly there is going to be some Sheldon typecasting. Being a star of the #1 TV comedy that ran for 12 seasons really doesn't mean much anymore but feel like 10-15 years ago mattered a lot more with Friends stars translating their TV pull to movie box office.

Fabelmans had a great drop but will it hang around long enough to make much box office.

Black Adam looks like it could finish with an even $170M which is respectable given how dire DC feels sometimes.

The Menu is really catching on. Here's to hoping it gets a big holiday bump. Looks like it will get at least a 4+ multiplier and could go higher if it hangs around for the holidays.

Violent Night is probably still going to do $40M+ so respectable.

WF passed $400M (finally)! Would have liked more but #3 for the year still is great for it.

The Whale did actually end up beating the theater average of Everything Everywhere.

Kind of disappointed by the hold for Violent Night. I'd say it would stabilize in weekend three but probably not with Avatar opening.

I looked up the same Dec weekend's box office for 1983 and it's top 10 was at $29,604,626.

We might be at $35M perhaps this weekend with 39 years of inflation? :funny:

Nice to see there's always new records good and bad we can break.

Violent Night ended up dropping 35%. I can live with that.

The Whale could outdo Uncut Gems with that opening though I doubt it performs on par with EEAAO.

I really think it's going to mostly fizzle in wide release. The promotion has been awful. There's not even a real trailer and I've never seen the teaser in front of anything I've seen. Reviews are not that great. The only thing it has going for it really is the praise for Frasier. I do think it could get to double digits though. Maybe in the 11 Million range. If it goes moderately wide on the 21st (say, 400-500 theaters) I think it could have a pretty good run during the Christmas stretch.

The Brendan Fraiser revival is a real thing though. I bet we get a new Mummy for the 25th anniversary in 2024.

I didn't realize George of the Jungle is 200 mil adjusted. Good work by young Brendan Fraser! Maybe they should make a D+ series or something.

Fraser would be a great Jor-el if they reboot Superman again.

Another Mummy would be awesome, but they would Fraser, Weizc, Hannah and co. back for it.

BOX OFFICE: #WakandaForever  takes the top spot w/ $11M. Its 5-week run at #1 is longest of the year & only the 3rd time ever an MCU film has achieved this milestone & the first franchise to do it twice:
#NoWayHome - 6 weeks
#BlackPanther  - 5 weeks
#WakandaForever  - 5 weeks

Top Gun: Maverick has seriously shaped the box office outlook in one way. When I look at the fact that Wakanda Forever was #1 for five straight weekends, which is hugely impressive, but then I see its gross is only $410 million, lol. Over $300 million below the Cruisemeister. You could fit Independence Day in the gap!

Yes, I was surprised to see this, actually. It's only at 67%. Nothing to shout about.
