Doesn’t everything get a standing ovation at Cannes?

It sure seems like that. If not a 10-minute ovation then a least widespread applause.

Standing ovations seem to be for when film festivals get to see celebrities or when they award best actor wins now at the Oscars for Will Smith so think they aren't as powerful as they used to be.

Standing ovation or not I don't see how this gets over the fact that Harrison Ford is now OLD old.

Lovely poster and combined with the new trailer this feels at least better than the last one.

It did get standing ovation at Cannes. Now let us see how that translates to ticket sales. That is starting next Monday.

This existing is the movie version of boomers refusing to retire in offices and not allowing Gen Xers and millennials into senior positions. Hollywood's dearth of creativity and new ideas is at the point of self-parody. Yesterday I saw Guardians and literally every trailer before it was for the 10th installment of a franchise. This; the Flash, which looked more like a Batman movie; Transformers; Marvels; etc, it's all the same shit over and over and over. I'm so tired.

Starting metacritic at 53. There are too few reviews to make a judgement but reading the reviews, it seems another retread of the same story arc we have seen in other Indy movies. Mangold does it with panache but there is nothing new. I think fans will like it but its not going to be universal rave even with the "standing ovation".

The ovation is more like a farewell gesture to Ford. And so many films get ovations at festivals. They mean absolutely nothing for a film's financial prospects.

More and more mixed reviews. This is the Forced Awakens of Indy. To be fair all the sequels have followed the same formula from Raiders. They are hoping nostalgia will help it print money at box office. Hope that happens. But for now I am skeptical this will be in Top 5 this summer.

Reviews are not terrible but definitely not good enough to get the skeptics to see it.

It will still do ok I think but definitely a big comedown from the ticket sales of KOTCS

It was a terrible idea to screen this so early. That 43% is gonna really hurt it imo

Up to 50% on RT (8 reviews) and 51% on Metacritic (10 reviews). Might be kinda too early to make any sort of judgments.

Early reviews are disappointing for sure. Felt like this one could have captured the spillover magic from Top Gun but maybe not. Seems like Disney's issues will take more than a new Bob to fix.

Read through some of the reception and don't think its good. It's certainly made me less excited about it and I have the IJ (1-3) box set so am a big fan. :D

People at Cannes in the audience were visibly bored. Feels like it could be an overly safe to the point of being a snoozefest. Those usually don't work out well and being 142 minutes will probably not work out well for our short attention spans. Can't see this with surpassing the last one by much.

Standing ovations there don't mean much have to agree on that note. Feel like every other movie last year got a standing ovation. They more like big stars.

I have been to TIFF's Audience Choice winner screenings and those movies are a good gauge for crowdpleasers and have done pretty well. But those tickets are also free so maybe people are just overly excited to see a free movie too. :P

Boo. That sucks. I’ll see it opening day anyway. Lol

This movie is at least a half decade too late, we knew that from Ford's age, but also if it came out after the TFA and Jurassic World boom it might have gotten away with a member berries approach more.

Presales are starting on Monday(and the Flash on Tuesday). We will know how things will go early next week.

RT starts at 50%.... very interesting.

Maybe premiering this at Cannes was a mistake lol. Think I was overly optimistic since the trailers are strong.

Ticket sales have started today and screen allocations are not great. I thought this will get blockbuster allocation. Could be due to release window being stacked. Its not going to behave like MCU or SW movies for presales so early. Plus with reviews already being out and not so strong, buzz have to pick up close to release.

RT score won't matter for this one as well cause it'll make bank :D

Really poor opening day presales. I am not feeling 100m OW any more.

This needed good reviews. Don’t see it even doing 300m anymore
