This film shouldn't exist. If they absolutely had to it should've been out 10 years ago. An embarrassing flop would be fitting for the hubris required to think audiences want to watch an 80 year old LARP as himself from 50 years ago for a dusty franchise that aged poorly in the first place. Also ironic the Hwood writers strike is happening at the same time, not exactly a great argument for more pay when this is the regurgitated nonsense that they are churning out. Maybe A.I. could actually come up with an original film concept.

Prediction: $65M OW / $180M total

Yeah, this is just a 'correction movie'. But we see those go wrong all the time. They tried to correct The Matrix Revolutions but made it way, way, way worse with Resurrections. I can forgive Spielberg for wanting to correct the mistake of Indy 4, and this does look way better, but perhaps it really should have come out earlier. But in the same breath I also don't see anything wrong with it coming out now either. I want to see it. Looks fun. I know there's doom and gloom around it recently since the reviews aren't glowing, but it can still do very respectable numbers. I mean, it's at 50% on Rotten Tomatoes. Plenty of films have come out and done very well with similar (or worse) RT scores; Jurassic World: Dominion has 29% and did $376 million, 2019's The Lion King has 52% and made over $540 million. Heck, even this year's Mario got 59% and that's on course for $600 million.

Yeah, it's dated corny boomer nonsense. Sorry not sorry. Of course this is only my (unpopular) opinion.

Yeah, he's flat-out wrong there. And that prediction, lol, if that turns out to be right then American society has failed.

I know people who like Indiana Jones and people who haven’t seen it and then I know Barrabas.

What does “dated” even mean? They’re all period pieces first of all. You can say any old movie is bad by calling it “dated”, because definitionally that just means feels old, which is not a bad thing.

What 80s movies have not become “dated” according to you?

Barrabas is not talking from domestic perspective. There are tons of folks here in US and probably some the core big countries where Indy is still popular. 1st movie is easily one of the greatest blockbusters of all time. The sequels to me is just repeating the same formula. Some like Last Crusade did it better than others. But I did not like LC that much when I rewatched it.

It should still make good money WW. But not as much as what some hoped.

He means there are no braindead zombies on cell phones walking around, and characters use actual English words and dress appropriately.

To help with buzz, they should have shot 1 scene between Indy and Ke Huy Quan as Short Round and then put it in a trailer or heavily hint at it. The reunion!

People have a lot more nostalgia for Ke and his Oscar campaign and win were very endearing. I don't really have any attachment with Indy and Phoebe Mary Waller-Bridge.

As a fan, I would have loved to see it and could have done under 1 day of filming.

I had the trailer at my Guardians Vol. 3 showing today, but it was an old one so it said "Next June...", which made me laugh. Way to go in drumming up some buzz, Disney! Making people think it's coming out in 2024, lol

Lol the trailer and clips on YouTube all have the like button disabled outright and the comments are nothing but people trolling.

Lowering my prediction to $52M OW. Wouldn't be shocked at lower.

Predicting boxoffice opening weekend based on YouTube likes/dislike/comments is just silly

Lol.
It might disappoint but the last film did the equivalent of 212m in 5 days in todays dollars. I don’t see in dropping 75% in ticket sales.

Ouch for IJ. Official tracking is at $60M. Those can be missed on the low end as well. Is there a chance this misses $50M after the last one opened to $100M+ 3day?

They should have just scene by scene copied TGM's playbook.

Would it? Who asked for a fifth Indiana Jones movie? the idea is so tired and washed out (like its star, no offense Harrison).

I used to be a fan of the franchise (original trilogy) but they officially nuked the fridge / swung with the monkeys in 2008… 15 long years ago.

Every IJ even IJ4 adjusts to $400M+. Skull is at about $405M.

There's a chance this could miss or just pass $150M. #4 really destroyed the franchise badly. Also way too long for a finale.

The Star Wars prequels were poorly received when they came out and the Sequel trilogy still did big box office.

I’m sure they expected a similar Excitement despite previous disappointment here.

Things lately have been performing higher than tracking, so let’s all calm down. That said, I think I said it earlier, but Gen Z could care less about Indy and they are the primary movie going audience. Top Gun should have been the approach to this movie.

presales have been abysmal so far. Let us see how things are closer to release as its not having any catalyst anymore with poor reviews.

I feel like there's a small chance it fails to outgross Jungle Cruise ($117M). Think about it. $45-50M OW and bad legs. It could happen.

The film having bad reviews over a month before it opens does not help.
Having it at the cannes films festival was a mistake.

I feel like this is exactly what they were going for. An aging, beloved hero has one last ride while also training his replacement. And Top Gun only came out like 3-4 years after Raiders so its not like it has some increased place in the hearts of the youth.

They should have known better here. They could still have gotten this to a respectable gross and played enough into nostalgia to pull in more audiences.

I blame Disney on this one which may have been "pre-occupied" with things to pay much attention to this. Paramount had a better film with TGM but pretty much ran a flawless marketing campaign to build buzz.

Elemental + IJ5 disappointing would be a big issue. Pixar alone would have been bad having one of their worse performing films but the scrutiny on both will be interesting to watch.
