![Post Post](./styles/serene/imageset/icon_topic_latest.gif) THE INCREDIBLES International Performance
Since I'm doing this for my thread, I might as well post it for everyone's convenience here. I think we've got an international monster on our hands here; this film is getting to be huge.
This was from yesterday; so that's why it's in estimates.
THE INCREDIBLES: WORLDWIDE REPORT
OK, from Variety, via Yahoo:
"The Incredibles" drew an estimated $5.8 million, led by Sweden's $1.3 million (slightly below "Finding Nemo"), Taiwan's $1.3 million (more than doubling "Nemo") and Norway's $950,000.
Pixar/Disney toon mustered roughly $690,000 in Denmark, $480,000 in the Philippines, $425,000 in Finland and $330,000 at the Grand Rex in Paris, where it's platforming as a primer for its Nov. 24 nationwide bow.

Alright, let's break this down:
Domestic- Weekend 1: $70,467,623 , Total: $70,467,623 Domestic- Weekend 2: $51,049,000 , Total: $144,053,000
International- Weekend 1: $5,800,000 ,Total: $5,800,000
WorldWide- Weekend 1: $70,467,623 ,Total: $70,467,623 WorldWide- Weekend 2: $56,849,000 ,Total: $149,853,000
By Markets
SWEDEN
Weekend 1 Estimate: $1,300,000
I have no idea why Variety says it's just below Finding Nemo; Nemo had a $2m weekend, the biggest animation opening ever. The $1.3m Incredibles figure is actually below The Lion King's $1.5m opening as well. It might be that Variety is referring to local currency, which might have depreciated against the dollar in Sweden.
Anyways, The Incredibles' opening is double Shrek 2's. Shrek 2 did however, have a very good run there, holding up well in subsequent weekends.
Sweden: Weekend 1 Estimates/Comparisons
LOTR: ROTK- Sweden $4,700,000 | 169 | $27,811 Note: Biggest Weekend of All Time LOTR: TTT- Sweden $3,500,000 | 151 | $23,179 Note: 2nd Biggest Weekend of All Time LOTR: FOTR- Sweden $2.8m-$3.5m | Note: 3rd Biggest Weekend of All Time Harry Potter 3- Sweden $2,800,000 | 164 | $17,073 Note: 4th Biggest Opening; behind LOTR Finding Nemo- Sweden $2,028,297 | 158 | $12,837 Note: Animation record, replacing Tarzan Harry Potter 2- Sweden $1,900,000 | 156 | $12,179 Note: Then record Harry Potter 1- Sweden $1,525,827 | Note: Then biggest weekend The Lion King- Sweden $1,500,000 The Incredibles- Sweden $1,300,000 Shrek 2- Sweden $615,433 | 132 | $4,662 Lilo and Stitch Sweden $475,000 | 123 | $3,862 Ice Age- Sweden $300,000 | 114 | $2,632
Comparisons between any films and the LOTR/HP ones in Scandinavia are useless; those films are shoulders ahead of anything else that has ever been out there (except maybe Titanic). The Incredibles' opening is certainly encouraging; I hope for it to hold up well in the weeks to come, and a few million from Sweden is guaranteed.
NORWAY
Weekend 1 Estimate: $950,000
An excellent opening, one of the best ever, and dethroning Shrek 2, which has been sharing the #1 spot with Collateral during most of fall over there. If actuals confirm the estimates, The Incredibles will have topped Finding Nemo's opening, but it will trail Shrek 2's massive opening weekend. Overall, another encouraging sum, and like Sweden, Norway will add a few million to The Incredibles' coffers.
Both Nemo and Shrek 2 have had multipliers of around 5x-6x, so expect around $4.5-5.7m from Norway for The Incredibles.
Norway: Weekend 1 Estimates/Comparisons
LOTR: ROTK- Norway $3,300,000 | Note: Biggest Weekend of All Time LOTR: TTT- Norway $2,700,000 Harry Potter 2- Norway $1,600,000 | 96 | $16,667 Note: Then, the 2nd Highest Opening Harry Potter 3- Norway $1,600,000 | 112 | $14,286 Note: Just 3% behind HP2 Shrek 2- Norway $1,260,452 | 124 | $10,165 Note: 6th Biggest Opening; $1,810,618 incl. $550,166 in previews Harry Potter 1- Norway $1,076,856 | 93 | $11,579 The Incredibles- Norway $950,000 Finding Nemo- Norway $927,646 | 110 | $8,433 Note: $1,502,545 incl. Previews; then an animation record, replacing Tarzan Lilo and Stitch- Norway $476,336 | 64 | $7,443 Note: includes previews Ice Age- Norway $280,000
DENMARK
Weekend 1 Estimate: $690,000
A pretty good number, though it trails behind Nemo, and is way behind Shrek 2. I don't expect Denmark to be a big contributor to the film's overall gross, but hopefully it can hold up well in the weeks to come. BTW, check out LOTR's opening weekends, WOW ![Shock ](./images/smilies/shock.gif) This is a country of barely 4.5m people, these are massive sums for such a small market. Simply stunning.
LOTR: ROTK- Denmark $3,900,000 | 120 | $32,500 Note: Biggest Weekend of All Time LOTR: TTT- Denmark $2,750,000 Note: 5-day Figure; FOTR ~ $1.67m 5-Day Harry Potter 2- Denmark $1,900,000 Note: Then, the biggest weekend of all time Harry Potter 3- Denmark $1,800,000 | 137 | $13,139 Note: 4th Biggest Op., behind TTT, ROTK, HP2 Harry Potter 1- Denmark $1,283,153 | 89 | $14,417 Note: A then record Shrek 2- Denmark $1,063,832 | 73 | $14,573 Note: Animation Record; $1,183,939 including previews, Top 10 Opening Behind LOTR & HP Finding Nemo- Denmark $750,000 | 87 | $8,621 Note: #3 behind Tarzan & Shrek 2 Hercules- Denmark $746,000 | 65 | $11,477 The Incredibles- Denmark $690,000 Brother Bear- Denmark $624,513 | 75 | $8,327 Ice Age- Denmark $262,000 Lilo and Stitch Denmark $200,000 | 61 | $3,279
FINLAND
Weekend 1 Estimate: $425,000
Another great number; and The Incredibles is leding Nemo here as well. Shrek 2 is still tugging along in Finland, but roughly speaking, both Shrek 2's and Nemo's multipliers were around 5.2x, so The Incredibles could end up with $2-2.2m in Finland.
Harry Potter 2- Finland $847,000 | Note: Then, the biggest weekend ever Harry Potter 1- Finland $663,500 | 65 | $10,208 Note: Then a Record LOTR: TTT- Finland $662,838 | 58 | $11,428 Note: 5-Day Opening $1,023,950 The Incredibles- Finland $425,000 | Finding Nemo- Finland $416,243 | 53 | $7,854 Shrek 2- Finland $321,780 | 61 | $5,275 Note: $375,621 including previews Ice Age- Finland $106,000
SCANDINAVIA
Weekend 1 Estimate: $3,365,000
Scandinavia refers to Sweden, Norway, Findland, Denmark, and Iceland. While figures for Iceland aren't out, overall, its first outing in the region is very good. It is shoulders ahead of Monsters Inc.'s and Ice Age's opening weekends there:
The Incredibles- Scandinavia $3,365,000 Monsters, Inc.- Scandinavia $1,300,000 Ice Age- Scandinavia $1,100,000
TAIWAN
Weekend 1 Estimate: $1,300,000
Aside from doubling Finding Nemo's opening, The Incredibles actually topped Shrek 2 as well. Again, a very good number, and with good legs should lead to a very decent gross from Taiwan. Check out the previous page for more info from Taiwan and Taipei.
PARIS, FRANCE
Weekend 1 Estimate: $330,000
Finding Nemo- Paris $330,000 | 1 | $330,000 Note: Single Screen: Grand Rex Theatre Finding Nemo- Paris $328,000 | 1 | $328,000 Note: Single Screen: Grand Rex Theatre
Absolutely stunning number; and the fact that it beat Nemo's preview is tantalizing. This is easily the biggest news this week, from the international front, because it sets up the stage for a potentially huge opening and total. Finding Nemo is the third biggest film of all film in France (in dollar terms), in a country obsessed with animation (and cinema in general). As I stated in an earlier post, The Incredibles cracked the top 10 in Paris opening day just from one single theatre.
France will be a crucial market for The Incredibles; I don't expect it to match Nemo (it'd be unfair to compare it to a top 3 film), but all factors indicate a big total. $50m is not out of the question; $40m+ is within reasonable bounds.
OVERALL ASSESSMENT
It is still too early to say where the film will end up; UK, France, and Japan numbers are needed to give a clear view of things. However, all signs point to a wonderful international roll-out. It is clear that Pixar's brandname benefitted greatly from Finding Nemo's huge success. While I don't think $500m is impossible, it is highly unlikely that Pixar will register another $100m+ film in Japan, which is a must if it is to pass the half billion mark.
I am fully expecting the UK to be the biggest market, hopefully with $60-70m; Shark Tale, and especially Shrek 2 (a gargantuan $89m) have been massive, and Nemo/Monsters Inc/TS2 are all high up the all time chart.
The declining dollar will also help it greatly in the euro zone (UK is outside of that). France and Germany should lead the way on the European mainland.
My Current Prediction:
Domestic: $280-$330m
International: $350-$450m
WorldWide: $630m-$780m

The film decreased an insanely small 1.64%
If this film displays the kind of legs Nemo did, watch out. I will not rule out $500m for this thing, but would like to keep it at $350-$450m. Amazing drop!

$5.7M WEEKEND
"The Incredibles," starting off slowly in selected smaller markets, is beginning to show its potential with a strong $5.7 million kickoff from seven countries, all No. 1 bows. Taiwan's $1.3 million represented the biggest opening ever for an animated film in the market. In Sweden, which also took in $1.3 million, the film captured 60% of the market.
So there you go. It's down from the $5.8m estimate, I guess. I dunno what the actual is yet.

Bridget Jones did great overseas, showing once again that when it comes to taste, no one is perfect, not even the international audience
Anyways,
