I recall my posts at mojo as "Elterrible" and yours as magnus101 where we compared supes vs. pirates 2 to" spidey vs. atoc" :hahaha: :(

Well, POTC2 did its part and made 400m+.

SR sucked and didn't do its 275m+ :disgust:

That was a "legendary" thread at BOM as well. Magnus must be one of Kal's favs bcos he brings up his name every few days. :funny:

Need to rewatch SR to decide which is better, it or TDK.

Is it just me but did they really shoot themselves in the foot with the son of Superman. The entire movie it was very hard to relate to Superman because he was made out to be a god. If I were in charge, I woudl kill of the son and show how human Superman really is, just my idea.

The Superman name + July 4th almost gurantees 200m.

Good marketing by WB gurantees 50m more. The film is a lock for 250m

Here is an unoffical promo release for Superman Returns. None of this is 100% accurate I think, however if only half of it is true, trust me this will cross 250m and 275m easily.

-January 2006:
*Teaser trialer #2 airs with GLORY ROAD.

-February 2006:
*Televised trailer with SUPER BOWL(U.S.)
*Tie in with Winter Olympics in Torino, Italy
*Teaser Poster #2 and Cinema Cardboard cutout of Superman Returns official logo in cinemas across the World

-March 2006:
*4 Televised trailers air with NCAA basketball playoffs
*Theatrical Trailer #1 airs with ICE AGE 2: THE MELDOWN

-April 2006:
*Theatrical banners released.
*Character posters for SUPERMAN, CLARK KENT, LOIS LANE, LEX LUTHOR, and JIMMY OLSEN released.

-May 2006:
*TIME MAGAZINE front cover
*Advertisements for CHRYSLER,LAYS POTATO CHIPS,_______, VERIZON WIRELESS, NESTLE, GATORADE, and PANATRONICS ELECTRONICS begin to air on television.
*Picture advertisments with GATORADE, LAYS,______,and NESTLE are attatched to products
*Music videos and singles from KELLY CLARKSON and THE FOO FIGHTERS in endorsment for the movie are relased.
*60 MINUTES "making-of" special
*Kate Bosworth REVELON HAIR PRODUCTS ADVERTISEMENTS air
*MTV MOVIE AWARDS 2006 spoof
*12 televised trailers begin airing on prime time channels
*Brandon Routh interview with BARBRA WALTERS
*Merchandise release
*Theatrical Poster relased
*World wide billboard campaign with posters
*Theatrical trailer #2 airs with POSIEDON

-JUNE 2006(RELEASE)
*BRANDON ROUTH People magazine cover
*Advertisments from BURGER KING air on television.
*USA TODAY "MAN OF STEEL RETURNS" cover article
*12 televised trailers air on all stations beginning 6/13/06.
*Cast begins talk show appearences
*Toy and merchandise advertisements air on television.
*MTV making the movie special including SAVE SUPERMAN special
*FX inside look at the FX(special effects) in SUPERMAN RETURNS
*WORLD PREMIERE
*NBA FINALS 2006 tie ins air on television.
*TODAY SHOW - KELLY CLARKSON conecert and coundown to the film
*SUPERMAN RETURNS : THE VIDEO GAME release

WB is going CRAZY. Mainly because they have spent sooo much money on this that they need like 600m WW just to break even.

If that promo schedule is excuted as it should be, SR could maybe hit 350m, but that would also require a very high-quality film. I doubt either one happends. I'm expecting a good film, maybe SM2 level. No where near Batman Begins.

But 250m is a lock. And the most likely range for this will be 275m-325m

That would have been an incredible marketing campaign had the film been marketable at all beyond one scene.

Rewatched this for the first time in many years and good lord - wtf was WB thinking letting Singer do this? The film is actually somewhat moving emotionally and Routh does a good job, but Bosworth is terrible and Spacey way off key. There is no action. Singer clearly watched "The Notebook" and thought he should do that with Superman. And worst of all..the retro, 1940s look resulted in a straight up unmarketable movie. The trailer's weren't poorly edited in hindsight, the film itself was just a shockingly tough sell.

To think WB was *this* close to what would have been an insanely marketable "Superman meets ID4 Alien-type invasion" film written by JJ Abrams and directed by Michael Bay (money shots galore) starring Josh Hartnett (hot shit at the time), Anthony Hopkins (one of the worlds most respected actors) and Robert Downey Jr as Luthor (omg this would have been amazing), That film would be an utter megahit.

Instead we got this turd. What the fuck were they thinking?
