Barbie is sold OUT here in Vancouver. Literally impossible to see it before next weekend. What kind of Avengers sized opening is this.

This is so weird, like Top Gun 2.

Gen Z loves their non-cookie cutter oddball creative spins.

And now critics say both films are borderline masterpieces. Holy fuck. What a weekend are in for! What a reward after the last month of high profile flops! It is not an exaggeration to say that the coming weekend will likely be one of those game changing weekends where the industry turns on its head. The uber explosion of such a unique, creative project such as Barbie is going to leave enormous ripples in it's wake.

92%, 8.6 average. Holy shit.

Yeah the late reviews I think will push the next couple of days of presales. Wow.

I’m not saying it won’t be good but you can’t proclaim it a masterpiece based off social media reactions which are always overly positive

Barbie was guaranteed good reviews, there is too much pressure from social media. Oppenheimer's RT is more interesting to me.

They just spent the last decade jizzing for the safest movies possible in Marvel movies, franchise reboots and Disney remakes, so not really

He hasn’t had a movie that didn’t open to backlash since inception lol

He hasn’t had a movie that didn’t open to backlash since inception lol, even if they got positive reviews overall, wouldn’t call TDKR, Interstellar, Dunkirk, and Tenet masterpieces

I have a feeling that Oppenheimer is gonna have Dunkirk level raves. All of the real critics I follow that have seen it have been raving it, and it sounds like a pretty large-scale triumph for Nolan.

Good to see the raves for Barbie too. I'm still curious to see how audiences react to it because it sounds like the film is rather...thematically ambitious, so I don't know if everyone will love that. But regardless, it looks like a bonafide blockbuster.

Oppenheimer friday sales are so ridiculous that comps are showing 29m friday minus previews. This is with average walkups. I am sure it would have opened greater than 100m without Barbie and with full PLF release.

Wouldn’t 30m true Friday be like 40-45m Friday And like 95-100m OW?

I don't know if it would have. The B+O combo has helped both of these films immensely. MI on the other hand may win the worst release date of the year title for that reason though The Haunted Mansion is giving it competition on that front since its an easy seasonal movie.

More I think, Inside Out's highest grossing no: 2 is in play here for Oppenheimer. Its simply nuts. Thursday is the weakest of them as it has very few shows compared to big openers. But entire weekend is nuts.

If Oppenheimer does indeed go 80m+ (literally wtf) I really don't see how it would've done that on its own weekend. So strange.

It's gonna be funny seeing studios try and create another double feature meme but I don't think this can be replicated, at least not to these lengths and with both films getting rave reviews.

Not just America. Barbie/Oppenheimer are showing great buzz outside as well. Barbie's latin american presales are out of the world. Looking at Paris 2PM, Barbie has had the best of 2023 while Oppenheimer has 2nd best number. Oppenheimer is having great numbers in Asia as well. India presales are crazy strong and its doing well in few other Asian markets it opened today. Australia PS is crazy strong for both movies as are UK presales.
