Re: Avatar 2 Predictions
Whenever people talk about 3D movies I feel like Avatar is usually brought up as an exception for the uselessness of it, so I'm guessing Avatar 2 will have a high 3D %.
It's really, really hard to figure out where its WOM stands now though. It feels like no one is willing to admit they enjoyed the movie anymore, and most of the time it's brought up as a Pocahontas/Ferngully/Dances with Wolves rip-off. Granted, Titanic went through a similar "nobody liked that movie" phase (I remember my nerd uncle refused to see movies with DiCaprio for ages because of Titanic), so we'll see I guess if people continue to feel that way as this approaches. It's 3.5 years away, who the hell knows what happens between then and now.

Re: Avatar 2 Predictions
Every demographic gave Avatar an A Cinemascore. I agree it's kind of uncool in many circles to like Avatar too much, but it's not uncool to like Cameron, so that should offset that factor for the most part.

Non-hipsters who have hearts still love Titanic and Avatar. There will be a dropoff in total sure, but the opening weekend will be huge enough to not let it sink too far. Should be the first $100M+ December opener easily. I'd say $140M OW // $585M total for Av 2.

I find it laughable that people are predicting an OW record for Avengers 2... but don't see the same for this.
You're all insane.

I'm sure the first club will be either "AVATAR 2 will beat TITANIC" or "AVATAR 2 will not beat TITANIC"...

You're all insane. The gross will be more spread out. Avengers 2 won't have a $30M+ Day 4 and 5.

You're all insane. Avengers 2 won't have a multiplier over 3.0. This will. So that means it won't open huge?

Cool, Iron Jim is finally at it again - doing movies. 2016 is a long wait. At least we are getting 3 movies back to back. I guess he got inspired by his buddy Peter Jackson.

This'll easily top a $100m opening day. Not even a question.

Re: Avatar 2 Predictions
You crazy. $100m - 150m opening weekend. $400m - $500m total. Avatar was a phenomenon. The sequels won't repeat that. Think Star Wars.

Re: Avatar 2 Predictions
Yeah, I can't see this doing much more than 60% admissions of the first. That would put it around 485 million in 2015. I think this will see drop off much like the Jurassic Park sequels. Next one will open big, but much worse legs, third one will open well, but barely have any legs.

James Cameron averages over a 6.5 multiplier without titanic or avatar included.

His films also tend to have the among the best multipliers for the years of there release The fact you just posted was one of the many posted by those who thought my avatar prediction was impossible. James Cameron is well beyond any other director.

Re: Avatar 2 Predictions
I will not argue with you there. It's just that this will be Cameron's first non-original film in 25 years. I can't see how Avatar 2 won't be frontloaded to some degree, at least by Cameron standards.
Since it's going to have a bigger opening, I can't see a multiplier above 5, unless it is somehow amazing enough to actually outgross the original - and as I've said before, no sequel in the history of cinema has ever broken the domestic gross record. I just cannot see even Cameron being able to pull that off.
Even if it has good legs, it will still be frontloaded compared to the rest of Cameron's filmography.

Re: Avatar 2 Predictions
Three Avatar films in three years. Cant say I'm excited. Would have preferred only one sequel and then one new original film from him in the time since Avatar.
