It lost 26% of its theaters this weekend and still managed an under 40% drop (among the best in the top 10). It's gross up to July 4th is estimated at $283.3M so has $16.7M more to go and did a $5.2M 3day weekend with summer weekdays and no competition for another two weeks. Also combine that with probably some type of Labor Day re-release end of summer where people catch up on everything for another mini bump later if it is so close to $300M. Disney won't be able to resist.
Pretty much the Elemental and TLM show still as Kraken doesn't feel like it will be around for long. It made 45% of its weekend gross on Friday so not sure if its resonating with the matinee crowd. Assuming $5.2M/$283M, it would need 31% drops. Yes, it could happen. The summer weekdays might help.

I think Indys word of mouth is going to be pretty decent, we'll see how it holds.

Jesus Christ. The Flash can't catch a break. You'd expect its third weekend to relent and it have a much softer drop, but nope ... -67%. Just $5m weekend, and STILL not hit $100m. I would not be surprised with another 1,000+ theatre drop next week.

Re: IJ5 Weekend #'s
I've just read Deadline's whole report on Indy flopping. Man, they go to town on it. But is its opening really that bad? It is $60 million over three days that are part of a 5-day weekend where people may spread out their moviegoing, and it is projected to make $12m on Monday, so it's up to $72m already with one day remaining. So it will be over $80 million in five days. Is it really that awful? I know, I know, its budget was 400 trillion. But whatever. It's still surely going to finish over $220m, right? And that will place it in the year's top 5 so far. I mean, I get that it's disappointing. It's not hitting the heights of Crystal Skull, but it's hardly The Flash either. It's still putting up decent numbers, it's just that its budget was too high. That's all I see as its negative. Its gross in isolation is fine for a summer blockbuster.

Re: IJ5 Weekend #'s
I can’t take seriously Deadline’s article when they don’t mention the giant elephant in the room: he is too old and no one wants to see an 80 year old pretend to do action stunts. 80 is one step from the grave not an action hero. Indiana Jones was an icon because guys wanted to be him. Nobody wants to be grandpa with a CGI body double.

Re: IJ5 Weekend #'s
Yeah, exactly. A $60 million opening for an action great-grandpa is pretty excellent. The budgeting department at Disney will be pulled over the coals, but for what the film is it's doing fine in the marketplace, imo.

IJ5 Sunday looks like $18m-18.5m though I'm not sure if Disney's Fri/Sat numbers hold up...
ALL Top Ten movies increased versus Sunday estimates

Indiana Jones will have decent legs, IMO. Not enough to make it a success, but 180m dom total wouldn’t shock me, and 250-300m overseas.
Too bad that budget is so high.

It’s really kind of a bummer, the quality is solid all things considered. Are we that used to horrible films making bank?

Will there be 3 day actuals today, or is today also a holiday for the industry?

Everything went up a little. Except Elemental which went up alot. Spiderverse crossed $340M. With a holiday and empty weekend coming it might just be able to pull it off. The big 3 July movies are all targeting older audiences so both should be able to hold well for the next few weeks.

Re: IJ5 Weekend #'s
Ironically, both Elemental and Spider-verse need almost the same multiplier (5.97) to reach some lofty milestones. Elemental to reach $150M and Spider-verse to reach $400M. Not impossible if they can get some crazy holds.

Went to the drive-in to see Elemental on Saturday night - it and Spidey were packed while Indy was at the larger screen/area but had fewer cars. Cold night and school holidays but still shows Indy not quite the event expected. Usually that screen is full of cars on OW.

Re: IJ5 Weekend #'s
Some Monday #s up. The Flash finally passed $100m. Having these kind of dismal legs in summer is really pathetic.
If No Hard Feelings had a smaller budget it'd be a big win but as is it's doing decent.

Re: IJ5 Weekend #'s
I think Indiana Jones may play well throughout the month, would be nice to see it do over $160m even if that isn't enough to justify its budget.

Re: IJ5 Weekend #'s
The May 1 - July 2 box office tally is officially 1.7% behind 2022's tally.
We're overall up 20% for the year but that's because the big lead built from Jan - Apr box office.
It just shows how bad this summer has been. People were still getting back post Covid and we should not be DOWN this first half of the summer compared to last year, especially with the momentum we had from March and April which were much more exciting than June has been!

Besides the Flash, the weekend after not having a big opener a big reason being down from last summer.

I think this year is littered with under performers that just aren’t exciting enough for audiences when they can just wait for it to stream.

This year to date isn't a total loss, though. Mario, Spider-verse, and Barbie all look to be major franchises for the foreseeable future. Big win.

Re: IJ5 Weekend #'s
Yeah I suspect we will see a Barbie 2 fast-tracked. And if they could pay Jennifer Lawrence $25M for No Hard Feelings then surely Margot will get a Tom Cruise level paycheck.
