ALERT!
Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason has already sold out nighttime shows at the following theatres (from what I can see, at least):
AMC Hoffman Centre 22: 7:30 PM (Suburban VA)
Loews Georgetown 14: 8:00 PM, 9:10 PM (near Washington DC)
AMC Empire 25: 7:05 PM, 8:55 PM, 11:35 PM (New York City)
Loews Lincoln Square & IMAX: 7:15 PM, 9:15 PM (New York City)
Loews 19th Street East: 7:45 PM, 9:00 PM (New York City)
This is quite unprecedented. If it maintains all of this, it looks like it may be able to crack $10M

In 500 theaters? Doubtful.
Anyway, my report...
Seed of Chucky (Star Cinema, IA)
12:30 p.m. -- 10% full in a 400-seater
Trailers:
High Tension
Elektra
The Ring Two
White Noise
Film:
Lots of laughs. I was a bit shocked to see quite a few children in the audience. The movie itself is one of the funniest of the year.

Is it better than Bride of Chucky?

I don't know. It's like Bride's tone on steroids. Mancini, though he isn't the visual master Ronny Yu is, displays some great camera work, especially in the Halloween/Psycho inspired opening scene.

Well, I found Child's Play 1-3 just okay, but I really loved Bride of Chuky, so I am interested in seeing this.

After The Sunset
AMC Marple 10
10:00pm, 200 Seater, 50% Full
Trailers
Missed all the trailers
Movie
What a ride. It was incredibly entertaining. Sure, it's no brilliant piece of work. It doesn't have top notch acting either, but damn, it was fun. Salma Hayek, oh Salma Hayek, you kept me on the edge of my seat (:D). Incredibly beautiful. Overall, it was just a fun game with a good ending. B+

7:30 (150 seater)
8:30 (200 seater)
9:15 (150 seater)
With more to come. Overall, this movie has been really holding it's own, especially matinees (which have been pretty close to full). I expect a good sophmore hold for this.

Seed Of Chucky
Time: 8:00 PM
Attendance: About six people in a 150 seat screen. I thought my theater was making a huge mistake by putting SOC in one of it's smaller screens, but this performance was terrible. I can't see it making more then six million this weekend. I'm shocked Scott's theater did so well.
Trailers (no reaction to any due to no crowd):
Ring Two
Boogeyman
Unleashed
Assault On Precient 13
White Noise
Elektra
Movie:
Meh. It wasn't as good as I was hoping, but it was still passable entertainment. The thing I was most impressed with was Don Mancini's directing job. It was suprisingly fantastic. The opening five minutes is one long POV of Glen (or Glenda), and it's some of the best directing work i've seen in awhile. Mancini also shows a great handling of obscure and abstract lighting. The sets look incredibly fake because of this, but it works so well. I kept thinking the film looked like a live action cartoon. It was amazing. He just has a great and completely original vision. Can't wait to see his work outside of the Child's Play world. Another good thing about the flick was it's abundance of extreme and over the top gore. We get a decapitation with gallons of spurting blood (think Kill Bill), a disembowlment with intestines left steaming on the floor, a disgusting melted face, a badly charred body, and lots of extremely bloody stabbings (blood spraying and spurting out, blood pouring from mouths). It was nice to see a horror film that actually earned it's R rating for once. On the downside of things, the film wasn't nearly as funny as it should have (or could have) been. While I appreciated all of the homages to horror movies of past (The Shining one was great), nothing else really had me laughing or smiling for that matter. The amount of jokes that just fall completely flat is rather alarming. I also found myself simply not caring where the story was headed, which made me lose interest in the film several times. Also, the film is just downright bizarre. Now, normally I love bizarre films, but this was just too... odd. Not in the mindfuck, David Lynch way, but in the "random shit happening for no reason" way. Stuff just comes way out of left field. I can appreciate that to an extent, but it really sucks you out of the film after awhile. Another thing I enjoyed, though, was the final five minutes or so. It was insanely warped. So all in all, I enjoyed SOc to an extent, but it simply wasn't what I thought it would be. I'd give it a 5 out of 10 or a C+. Bride Of Chucky was better.

Man, I really do not like the look of The Polar Express. I think the film looks great, but I don't understand how it isn't doing well. Hell, Shark Tale held up yesterday with The Incredibles!!!

Because The Polar Express never appealed to kids as much as some of you thought. Funny kids movies sell, and that's been proven over the years. Especially considering this horrible release date (5 days after The Incredibles), I don't know why anyone would expect a breakout $40-50 million opening weekend.

Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason
1:30 show, 200-seat auditorium, not an empty seat in the house.
Trailers:
In Good Company - muttering (looks good)
Meet the Fockers - huge laughs
Hide and Seek - whispers
Spanglish - silence
Ocean's Twelve - laughs
Movie:
The original Bridget Jones's Diary (well, besides being my favorite contemporary novel) is one of my favorite movies. I wasn't expecting The Edge of Reason to be anywhere near as good as the first film (especially considering the sequel book wasn't). It definitely fell short of the first movie, but I still liked it a lot. Other than the ludicrous, melodramatic prison sequences (which were also in the book, so I can't really complain), I thought Bridget Jones 2 was humorous and cute. Although Renee Zellweger's British accent is not as consistent this time, the performance is yet again on the mark. Colin Firth and Hugh Grant are both good, although each seem to have smaller roles this time around (especially Grant). Overall, Bridget Jones 2 put a smile on my face. The audience also loved it, as there was a lot of positive chatter walking out (as well as so-called "grooving" to Beyonce's "Crazy In Love", which played over the end credits).
Upon departure:
The Incredibles had 3 sold out performances.
Polar Express had 1 sold out show.
Ray had 1 sold out show.
Shall We Dance had 1 sold out show.
Bridget Jones had 2 sold out shows.
