 January 24-26 Predictions
Flight Risk- 17 Presence- 4 Brave the Dark- 4 The Colors Within- 2
I've seen no marketing for Presence, assuming its not a horror breakout that I'm missing?

Soderbergh needs to get in on an Oceans movie again or make another franchise movie instead of random Lucy Liu horror.

 Re: January 24-26 Predictions
It's unfortunate because I believe 'Presence' could have had a killer opening weekend under the right circumstances. With a great marketing campaign, I think the first weekend of January could have brought in $20-30 million. While I think it would have quickly sunk due to audience reception, it could have had a strong start. Now, I only see a single-digit opening. Maybe their initial plan to platform it the weekend before going wide would have helped a bit to build buzz.

I think theyve dropped the ball here with the release and marketing.

 Re: January 24-26 Predictions
It's so strange. They could have used some of the Longlegs money to advertise Presence . I feel like they're going to spend more to advertise Perkins' next film, The Monkey, even though I think Presence had more potential to be a hit. Now, I think The Monkey will make more money, but only because they're not promoting Presence enough. The Monkey seems fun, but I believe the title and premise might come off as too goofy to audiences.

 Re: January 24-26 Predictions
The Monkey is hype. One of the best posters of recent films. I hope it can open to $20M like LL did.
This weekend - meh. Both Gibson and Soderburgh have made great films ... but not in the last ten years for Sodes (Side Effects) and its been almost 20 for Mel (Apocalypto.) The Brutalist needs to make a huge push this weekend. 2000+ theaters, no more messing around. One Of Them Days should expand another few hundred too. And Flow cause I really wanna see it again on the big screen.
Flight Risk - $10m Presence - $3m Brave the Dark - $1.5m in real tickets. Maybe more if Angel goes Angel.
I dunno what The Colors Within is.

I think they needed more of a male hero than Topher to go toe to toe with heel Wahlberg.

 Re: January 24-26 Predictions
Mel threw in, hell, he almost invented the Faith crowd, if he released something with Angel Studios he could potentially have another blockbuster. But he still wants to be part of mainstream Hollywood, and Hollywood doesn't want to outright cancel an icon, especially since he always seems to have a comeback up his sleeve...but they also want to keep a safe distance, just in case he has another meldown (which he kind of just did) and so the movie is in a bit of a publiciy limbo.

 Re: January 24-26 Predictions
My theater is getting rid of all of the Oscar movies that expanded last weekend. Such a waste that they didn't actually get to take advantage of the Oscar nominations on Thursday.

While another Ocean's movie is a mouth watering prospect, he is making good films on a shoestring budget and so he doesn't need to go back to that well. It's not his fault the studio hasn't marketed Presence. Though I will say it's maybe a tad hard to market the film. Films like A Ghost Story were met with the same problem. They're not as marketable as found-footage horrors, so any Paranormal Activity parallels probably aren't valid.

Apparently David Lietch will be directing Ocean’s 14 or is in talks to do so.

Flight Risk with just under $1M previews heading for ~$9M weekend. Can it beat Mufasa?

One day, the DTV reaper will come for Wahlberg. Has his time come.

 Re: January 24-26 Predictions
$4.4M off of those weak previews is actually good? Though this movie probably should have released next weekend. Can't imagine too many dudebros are gonna be going to the movies on Sunday with the Chiefs vs Bills game on.

 Re: January 24-26 Predictions
$14M budget and could be heading for $40M+. Add in Sza is joining the Superbowl half time show and maybe it can get a nice hold with Valentines Day, and Feb. long weekend. Already a solid hit for 2025.

 Re: January 24-26 Predictions
Mufasa narrows the Sonic gap to $5M with a $3M gain this weekend. Let's see the Dog Man impact but perhaps it catches Sonic by the end of next weekend?
