Re: Post Thanksgiving Weekend numbers
Interestingly Interstellar has never been #1. It opened against Big Hero 6 with a quieter run. Currently #10 on the never #1 list but should rise at least to #8, leaving Nolan with 2/8 of the top films never to reach #1.

Re: Post Thanksgiving Weekend numbers
Despite being influenced by a different Kubrick, Interstellar is officially the new Barry Lyndon.
It did do very well overseas, but still kinda crazy it opened to less than Dunkirk and didn't get a best picture nomination. No wonder Nolan now insists his films open in July.

Assuming OW is ~50m and Sonic is ~70m, it won't pull ahead of Sonic until after Christmas, but if Complete Unknown or Nosferatu are big enough they could prevent it from taking #1. And on Jan 10th there's Den of Thieves 2 which should take #1

We need a bit more McConaughey. Probably enjoying his life too much to act.

My theory would be the irrational hate Rachel Zegler gets, but those people probably wouldn't go see the movie to begin with, so...Kyle Mooney isn't for everyone (I still want to see it) and can kind of come off as "precious". The movie might have that same quality. Also based on the trailer, doesn't the movie kind of turn into a horror movie once it hits midnight?

Tues #'s
Wicked $4.7M -32.5% / $330.1M Moana TBD Gladiator II $1.77M -40.3% / $135.82M Interstellar $1.06M / $6.72M / $194.74M
Starting to stabilize quickly. Still feel $500M+ is in the cards here.
Interstellar is just $5.26M away from $200M. A very successful re-release!!

Re: Post Thanksgiving Weekend numbers
Wed #'s 1. WICKED ($3.4M) -33.1% 2. MOANA ($2.5M) -43.5% 3. GLADIATOR II ($1.2M) -39.1% 4. INTERSTELLAR ($1.1M) Interstellar is now at $195.8M! It's probably going to end up making $15M+ from this Imax re-release in just 165 theaters. Should be at $9M going into weekend 2. Gladiator will be at $138M going into the weekend. Not blockbuster level but a respectable run considering it could be at $150M before the holiday box office bump kicks in.

That will not have big increase in gross but even holding last weekend gross is sufficient for it to cross 200m.

Wait Interstellar has been doing this in 160 theatres? I assumed it was thousands.

I think Christopher Nolan is the most popular director amongst cinephiles these days.

Wow for a 21 year old anime re-release from Daft Punk making $1.5M on Thursday. Only originally had a $4M budget. 2024 continues to be the year of the re-release renaissance!

Re: Post Thanksgiving Weekend numbers
I agree Nolan was the majority but I'd say 75%. I do think the Barbenheimer thing added at least 25-30% and current times also made a film like that resonate like it did for TGM.
