It's pretty hard to predict Joker 70 mil total lol.

Had this movie started presales before we the prediction started, i would have predicted way lower :-) But still it would be high as I did not expect toxic WOM. I would have that Philips would make the movie for the fans of the 1st movie. This is unprecedented in sequel of a movie with the same team getting the worst received movie of all time for superhero genre.

Good news for the game is that this movie wont make or break the game as everyone were off with their predictions. Venom is next. I feel it will also go down from the last movie.

I think Venom is a very different story to Joker 2. That film's OW was in Oct. 2021 and still opened close to the original despite likely Covid depressed OW. I feel that one will fill in the mindless comic book fun vibe that D&W had. Though opening so close to Halloween seems not ideal though they likely thought Joker would be much bigger.

Also yes we could have predicted lower for a comic book musical but it's hard to predict a movie repulsing audiences and critics to such a great extent when your last film got nominated for 11 Oscars and became the top grossing R rated film of all time.

Only similar case (though not as dramatic a freefall) I can think of is Hannibal. A sequel to an Oscar winning performance and iconic best actor role (with a recast Clarice!!) and that still managed to get the #3 biggest OW of all time 10 years after the last film despite a bit of a repulsive reception with audiences. But we still got Hannibal Lector doing Hannibal stuff. If Hannibal as a sequel came in with a different theme like Hannibal pursues a new career as a singer, maybe we would then have a Joker 2 type performance.

Mike predicted 26 million more for Venom, 1 million less for Anora and 1 million more for We Live In Time. He is 29.8 million behind, so he's out, and nobody else can gain enough. Keyser wins, while it looks like stuffp and Rev will be close for 2nd as they went comparatively low with 75 and 81 million for Venom.

Well it's looking like the all time worst score record is going to be broken that I currently hold. Luckily, I'm the one I'm projecting to break it so I'm really setting a high bar for failure.

If I'm going to fail badly at this, I'm aiming to surpass 300 which given my Venom $139M OW prediction seems like a great possibility.

Let's put this month's movie contest performance in terms of Major League Baseball. The 2024 Chicago White Sox had 121 losses in the regular season, breaking the 1962 NY Mets record of 120 losses. The Los Angeles Dodgers had 98 wins and 64 losses, the best regular season record this year.
So 121/64 = 1.89. Let's say the winner of this month's movie contest has an error of 160. So to be as bad as the 2024 Chicago White Sox, the worst predictor has to have an error of 302.4. Yeah we're going to have a big spread between best and worst performance for the current movie contest.
