The Blind Side is up 95.3% (!!!) from last Monday and stands at $250.6 million now. WB should expand it to over 1,200 theatres next weekend and then it'll certainly pass $260 million. Looks like Star Trek is going down as #7 of 2009.

^As I expected, The Blind Side is not being expanded. I think that WB is more than pleased that it reached $250 million and plans to focus on DVD sales.

The film had the most unexpected run both financially and in terms of OSCARS. Five months ago, no one would have guessed that it would have been such a hit.

Despite no expansion it still had a very nice increase this weekend and as of Monday stands at $252,900,318. That makes it the #52 movie of all-time domestically, having passed Batman.

I think it still has a shot at passing Star Trek, though $260 million is out of question now.

Well, Star Trek is safe. It will soon pass $256 million, though and might finish within less than $1 million of Star Trek.

The film's current opening-to-total multiplier is 7.52 and it keeps rising. Just unbelievable.

Not a bad hustle to adopt a top football prospect and gamble that he makes NFL and pays off way more than you spent on tutors etc.

Not at all susprised. Even the movie had me feeling that way because of one scene near the end. I'll put it in spoilers just in case anyone out there still wants to watch it

Spoiler: show
So after Oher is questioning whether or not Bullock was manipulating him into attending her favorite school Missouri U, she has the opportunity to tell him that he can go wherever he wants to go, do anything he wants in life (even if it isn't football) and she will still support him no matter what. Instead, she tells Oher that he should go to her least favorite school, Tennessee, knowing full well that he will not, and this ends up being the key to getting him to sign with Missouri after all. So basically, she did manipulate him into doing what she wanted and since she also wrote the story, presented it as a touching emotional scene where she did nothing wrong.

Have to call BS here. Oher has been a millionaire with world class financial advisors and attorneys for 15 years. Unless Oher is a Forrest Gump-type moron, for him to insinuate he's just now - 2021 onwards - understanding things that happened 2005-2009 is, frankly, absurd.

No surprise he has a book coming out.

But at the same time seemed a bit too much like a Disney movie.

There's probably some element of truth here but agreed 14 years later is a long time to be bringing this up. It made so much money feel like he would have pushed for a cut sooner.

Well, while he had the body of a gorilla, Oher still had the mind of a child when all this happened. So he probably is finally assessing the situation, likely with the help of a therapist, and sees that he was indeed exploited.

Of course, whatever the families intentions were, there's no doubt that Oher's life is better off because of what they did. So this is a little bit of biting the hand that feeds too.

Author Michael Lewis is also disputing Oher's statements.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2 ... e-lawsuit/

Quote:
According to Lewis, Twentieth Century Fox, as it was then known, paid $250,000 for the option to make “The Blind Side” a movie, which he split 50-50 with the Tuohy family. The Tuohys have said they split their share evenly, including with Oher. After taxes and agent fees, Lewis said, his half was around $70,000.

Fox, however, never made the movie. (According to Lewis, the studio had thought Julia Roberts would be interested in the film, but she wasn’t.) Instead, Lewis said, Alcon, a small production company backed by Tuohy’s neighbor, FedEx CEO Fred Smith, stepped in. Instead of paying the actors large salaries, Lewis said, they were offered a share of the profits. Lewis said his deal provided him a share of the movie’s net profits, too. Warner Bros. distributed the movie.

According to Lewis, the film made around half a billion dollars but the equity stake in the movie was not as lucrative as it would appear. In fact, he said, he had called his own representatives at Creative Artists Agency over the years, following the movie’s success, asking about his share of the profits.

Lewis said that ultimately after agent fees and taxes, he and the Tuohy family received around $350,000 each from the profits of the movie. Lewis said the Tuohys planned to share the royalties among the family members, including Oher, but Oher began declining his royalty checks, Lewis said. Lewis said he believed that the Tuohy family had deposited Oher’s share in a trust fund for Oher’s son.

Additionally, Lewis said that two years ago Oher called him to ask about a speaking tour to make money discussing the book. Lewis raised the idea to his agent, but nothing came of it.

We live in such a weird time. It was trending on social media that Sandra Bullock should give back her Oscar.

I understand Milli Vanilli returning Grammys for not singing but how was she supposed to know the full extent of this? :er:
