Post Re: MI Dailies
The Monday daily is very unimpressive so far as this is the time for MI to clean up $ before the B+O storm.

Big potential likelihood that Sound makes it to #3 for the weekend vs MI too. Can't imagine when Cruise did the promos of him buying tickets for B+O that it would turn out like this for MI. There's a chance IJ, Transformers and Elemental all beat it. At least there would have been saving face of B+O+MI leading the box office. It's going to fall from #1 to #4.

If Sound beats it this weekend it will be the first time a MI movie has only spent 1 week in the top 3.

Tuesday #'s:

1. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE $7,273,490 $91,069,481
2. SOUND OF FREEDOM $5,449,143 +42% $96,182,705 :noway:
3. INDY 5 $2,227,509 -36% $149,376,553
4. INSIDIOUS 5 $2,002,067 -43% $61,798,957
5. ELEMENTAL $1,939,318 -8% $128,879,964
6. SPIDER-MAN $1,204,452 -19% $370,869,226

Sound has its best non-holiday daily yet. Could do $30M+ this weekend

In other news, the yearly domestic box office will pass $5B on Wed! That's before B+O even get released so could be well on our way to $6B with remaining July releases.

Are people expecting SOF to increase again with the competition for screens this weekend?

Think it will still be able to hold on to a lot of its screens while 9 other movies were in 1600+ theaters last weekend but with none of them likely to make $7M+.

That's quite telling.

This instalment just did not excite + competition is the greatest the franchise has ever witnessed. That said, I wonder if the "Part 1" aspect contributed to its underachievement. "Part 2" should see an uptick.

I’m also going to say the trailers weren’t good. They seemed very been there done that before, and no real good song to hook in and the big stunt was a let down after GP and the building, Rogue One and and the plane, and fallout with the bathroom brawl and helicopter chase. The biggest stunt here was ripped right from Goldeneye

Post Re: MI Dailies
These dailies get out early these days:

Wed #'s
Sound $4.8M +8.5% $101.0M
MI $4.6M $95.7M
Insidious $1.5M -41% $63,298,957
Spider-Man $910,000 -20% $371,779,226
No Hard Feelings $400,000 -31% $47,952,255

Sound passes $100M.

Fallout was $6,328,934 comparatively so $4.6M feels low for MI. I have it at about $121M by the end of the weekend. That would mean it needs about a 4.6X multiplier for the rest of its run to get to $200M after B+O weekend which may be challenging.

Spider-verse is only $28M away from $400M. Will probably end up at about $385M-390M. Maybe a re-release next year before the new movie could push it over.

Yeah I was wondering about that too. Could they really not just have come up with another title for Dead Reckoning 2? Across the Spiderverse ditched the "Part One" and did quite well.

If not for the legs we know it will have in August, this would be just as much of a flop as Indy. Quite the bummer. Top Gun 3 will be out by 2026 I bet.

Mission Impossible seems to be doing fine overseas so hopefully it doesn't collapse there.

It has the feel of a film that will end with, like, $180m or so. I hope it has legs, and most likely it will, but I'm not sure. I don't feel confident in it.

Post Re: MI Dailies
Seems a LITTLE fishy considering how long it took the MI number to come out vs the rest of the movies but with actuals it somehow managed to stay #1 after all by about $18K. The day it passes $100M is also when B+O open so it really wouldn't have looked good on it to lose #1 going into this weekend.

1 MI $4,740,147 -69% $95,809,628
2 SOF $4,722,496 +7% $100,905,201
3 IJ5 $1,580,304 -30% $150,956,857
4 Insidious $1,505,168 -41% $63,304,125
5 Elemental $1,390,223 -13% $130,270,187
6 Spider-verse $911,563 -20% $371,780,789
7 Transformers $427,568 -18% $154,247,524
8 No Hard Feelings $401,875 -31% $47,954,130
9 The Little Mermaid $373,485 -28% $295,169,006
10 Joy Ride $369,691 -21% $12,004,915

Also that's very impressive for Transformers with the 3rd best drop with just 18%. Definitely playing at this point like a family movie along with Elemental.

Dead Reckoning's numbers are now just as suspicious as Sound of Freedom's. :funny:

It must be The Entity.

To go from $4.6m up to $4.74m to take #1 is a lil' sus. Usually the actual doesn't change from the prelim estimate when rounded. Although the same is true for SoF going from $4.8 down to a rounded $4.7m. Almost like they went with a higher prelim number to get the #1 headline (even if only for a bit before M:I jumped up).

Not saying this is TRUE in either case! lol. But it is suspicious.

I used the numbers from Exhibitor Relations Twitter so if there are other good sources people use for early numbers, lmk! I don't think they would have Tweeted about MI losing #1 without feeling somewhat sure of it but apparently the dailies were off for both movies hours later...

I think ERC has been using unofficial non-studio estimates to be able to tweet these daily numbers so early and ahead of BoxOfficeReport and The Numbers, so they end up having a certain margin of error that can occur.

That said, maybe Paramount found some receipts in Puerto Rico at the last minute?

Thursday holdovers with drops from Wed

Insidious $1.20M (-20.3%) $64.50M
Spiderverse $610K (-33.1%) - $372.39M

Spider-verse is down 47.5% from last Thursday so clearly not going to be an easy 3day weekend for it.

Its reward? a massive 1,207 cut in theatres. :(

I cannot get over the drops for Dead Reckoning. Its Wednesday weekly drop was 69.5%, Thursday was 58.4%, and its Friday was 66.6%. It's so depressing. It's dropping so much that even if it stabilises it won't be earning much. Its Friday was only $5.56m. :disgust:

It's the first MI movie to miss $20M in its second weekend. :(

For comparison, Fallout's THIRD weekend was $19,352,090 compared to this one's $19.5M.

I'm surprised it didn't benefit from Barbie and Oppenheimer sell outs. I guess that's just not a thing any more with reserved seating? I wonder if theaters and studios are leaving money on the table with reserved seating.
