All look reasonable except for BTS. Does it have really high ticket prices like the Arashi or similar movies? By that, I mean ¥2500/3000 (or higher)?

If it has regular ticket prices, or only a little higher, then it probably ranks behind both Legend & Butterfly and The First Slam Dunk since those two are playing in ~82% more theaters nationwide.

looks like 2400 tickets only as far as I can tell

Okay, then the estimate looks reasonable. Thanks for checking!

Looks like better walkups on sun. I'd say 1b OW pretty likely now.

So yes it seems it will have 1 Billion OW from this twitter user

Quote:
[3rd day of release]
`` #鬼滅の刃上弦集結 '' estimated box office today... about 409 million yen Cumulative total... about 1.179 billion yen ( ※ estimated value)

The OP score far exceeds 1 billion yen, a number that is not inferior to the score of "THE FIRST SLAM DUNK" (1.296 billion yen)!
Next week is also scheduled for the "Josei no Oni Gathering Stage Greeting", so expect a big turnout!
#鬼滅興収速報

As other have said this person is overestimating, and it will lower than that number but still reach a Billion yen on OW.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: 2022 Yearly Results! (Pg. 899)
It's hard to say how much this skewed toward urban prefectures due to the premiums doing very well, as well as the stage greetings (which accounted for a lot of the ticket sales).

I think a "worse-case" is something like ¥950 million ($7.4 million) / 675,000 admissions. That's giving it a significant urban-skew, and a base avg. ticket price at ¥1,400.

"Best-case" is probably around ¥1.1/1.2 billion ($8.5-9.3 million) / 775,000 admissions or a tad more. That's giving it a solid rural presence, and an avg. ticket price at ¥1,450.

So, small chance it missed ¥1 billion, but more than likely it managed to do it. And if the actual comes in above ¥1.130 billion, it'll achieve the second biggest OW ever in February.

Well, I wouldn't expect too much since it's Dreamworks, but since Toho-Towa is handling it (Toho owning Universal film rights), and the good numbers and reception in various countries ahead of its release in Japan can help generate interest (big reason for delayed releases), then it might be able to do more than expected.

I'd set a goal of ¥1 billion (~$8 million) to begin. That seems low, and it is, of course, but it's been a mark many animated Dreamworks films have struggled (or failed) to reach in the past. ¥1 billion would be considered a success. Dreamworks never connected with Japanese audiences.

Suzume has finally reached another milestone and that is crossing 10 million admissions.

¥1.158.765.410 / 813.422 for DS, quite great.

Excellent. The admissions in particular, which shows a lot of rural appeal still (or Aeon was huge, but we'll never really know now.)

I don't think it could have done much better, really.

Post Re: Japan Box-Office: 2022 Yearly Results! (Pg. 899)
Regarding the legs conversation - I don't think this film is a good benchmark on whether the franchise still has a good grip on general audiences, because, well, it's not really fit for the general audiences anyway (though the rural share is rather encouraging on this front). Main thing this shows is that the DS fanbase is still hella strong, as a 1.15b OW with this kind of product is simply unheard of.

It's going to be quite tough for this to leg it out, especially since the further we go, the closer we get to its airing date, which will make the only new part of this film available to everyone. This has been quite the bane for disney films already, and should be even moreso here, considering the episode won't even require a D+ subscription and will air for everyone on tv, plus will be on a ton of streaming services as well.

I have it pegged for 3-4b, will be very surprised if it can do more than that.

I also just want to say again, since it will probably be making the news rounds on Twitter or places like IGN or Crunchyroll..

This is NOT a new, feature-length film. It's a recap special of the final 2 episodes from Season 2 (from last year), as well as the premiere of Episode 1 of Season 3 which will debut proper on TV this April. It is being given an 8-week theatrical run.

Fans will get to see Ep. 1 of Season 3 by as early as eight weeks by going to see this recap.

And just how the first movie broke all precedent for a box-office performance in Japan back in 2020, this anime-recap special just broke all precedent for such event releases.

Wow. Japan only has ~120 million people so this is like a TV show averaging 70m viewers in the US. I think only the Superbowl can reach those numbers (higher actually) in the US and that's only once a year. Crazy how much Japan fell in love with DS.

Yeah nutty numbers of course. I think DS is stronger outside the tracked area from videor in terms of ratings.
