Glad you loved it! I haven't been on Team Panic since the very first album, but we'll always have 2006.

You haven't liked anything from past three albums (including Viva Las Vengeance)? I can see not being on board for the three albums that followed A Fever You Can't Sweat Out if you're not a big fan, but, personally, I think the last three are great (Pray for the Wicked less so, but Bachelor and Vengeance, definitely). I was curious on VLV's reception since I love it, and saw it's Panic's best reviewed album.

Not telling you to listen to it, but perhaps consider it if you have down time between other albums or something. Definitely inspired by some classic rock from the 70s, such as Queen.

I bought the album today, just the third I've purchased so far this year. Listened to it fully four times on a four hour drive today and didn't tire of it once. Probably final ranking since I've listened to it a lot now:

Do It To Death - A+
Sugar Soaker - A+ (Most likely to be replayed.)
Sad Clown - A+
Don't Let The Light Go Out - A
Viva Las Vengeance - A
Star Spangled Banger - A
Middle Of A Breakup - A (Grew the most.)
God Killed Rock and Roll - A-
Local God - A-
Say It Louder - A-
Something About Maggie - B+
All By Yourself - B+ (Only song I skip sometimes, doesn't help it's between two of my three favorites.)

I mean I'm not gonna sit here and say that High Hopes or Dont Threaten Me With A Good Time are bad songs, cause they certainly are not. I just liked him better when he was trying to be Fall Out Boy v when he's trying to be Queen. An even hotter take from Flava'd is that I like FOB more than Queen. :hahaha:

82. Cheat Codes by Danger Mouse & Black Thought - 6.3

-Black Thought is from The Roots and Danger Mouse is obviously an already legendary producer. This album has a lot of features on it too, and the song quality could easily be dechipered in the titles of the songs. Tracks with people like Run The Jewels or Raekwon or Conway on them are very good. Tracks that don't have them are not.

83. Happy Now by Thick - 6

-These young alt-girl-punkers from Brooklyn tread through your usal zoomer topics - love, anxiety, depression and asking why adults stuck them with Trump for four years. I like their style, and while I also like what they're saying, there could be more some more subtlety to take them to the next level.

Oh also, Panic is having Beach Bunny as the opener for his upcoming tour so much respect is given for that. It's kinda like when Imagine Dragons (whom I very much disliked going into the show) had Metric (!!) and Halsey (!!) as their openers back in 2015.

I might have gone to Imagine Dragons to see Macklemore but he's not doing the date near me

84. Will of the People by Muse - 2

-This is the sound of people aging poorly. Neither a return to basics, a logical step forward or a push into the future. It just sounds like people who really want to remain relevant. Muse are one of my all time favorites, but this is the first time I've ever been embarassed by them.

Though really, that's ok. They've been going for almost twenty five years now and haven't put out a great record in at least ten. But we'll always have their excellent early run, which still hold up despite my fears that the new album would taint the old classics. Move along, nothing to see here.

85. 2000 by Joey Bada$$ - 6.3

-A fine, mostly average hip-hop album. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible. It came and went. If I'm in a rap mood maybe I'll revisit it one day.

The Birthday Massacre - Fascination (B)

Dreams of You - A-
One More Time - A-
Stars and Satellites - B+
Fascination - B
Once Again - B
The End of All Stories - B
Precious Hearts - B
Like Fear, Like Love - B
Cold Lights - B-

Pretty samey, both as an album and compared to their entire twenty(+) year discography, but fans will enjoy the new album. Might have a little more of an 80s sound than the recent albums.

86. Rumble of Thunder by The Hu - 9

This is a mongolian folkmetal band and they sound as cool as they look. If you liked the throat singing planet scene in Dune then definitely check these guys out. They broke out a few years back with their debut album The Gereg, and despite much less buzz this time around, I think they managed to top it. I can't understand what they're saying, but they still can speak to me through the guitars, and these are some of the best riffs we've heard all year. Maybe the best actually since the only other rock album to recieve a 9+ is Spoon.

Triangle leads the way. I'll post the video in spoilers. It's a bit softer than most of the songs on here, but also just so beautiful and makes me feel things.

Spoiler: show

87. Get Fucked by The Chats - 8

-These guys sounds like they'd be punk rockers from the UK, but they're actually from down under. Turns out they have things to rebel against too. God save the king snake.

88. Surrender by Maggie Rogers - 8

-Not to be confused with Maggie Stone, Maggie Rogers is actually a really good alt-pop singer. Want Want was my favorite song.

89. Jackpot Juicer by Dance Gavin Dance - 7.9

-Had been putting this one off to ease the awkwardness of one of their (3) singers having some allegations put on his name and being kicked out of the band. While the album is mostly very good, another big issue is that it just goes on too long for over an hour. And yes, that's what she said.

90. Darker Still by Parkway Drive - 7

-Pretty standard album for this metalcore band. A good thing for fans, not such a good thing for non-fans.

91. Girl Of My Dreams by Fletcher - 5.9

-This is pretty standard modern anxious lesbian pop, but it has some good songs at the beginning of the record that hooked me in till the end. It does kinda get repetitive after awhile though.

92. Spirituals by Santigold - 7

-After releasing her first two albums, both very good, Santigold was on her way to becoming one of my favs. A meh third album and a very long hiatus pushed her out of it, but maybe with this solid fourth record she is back on her way?

93. The End, So Far by Slipknot - 7

-The Slippy returns with a similiar sound to their last record - big big heavy metal production with lots of percussion (they use three drummers in concert!) However, while all the songs are pretty good, there aren't any major standouts like All Out Life (my #2 song of 2019), Unsainted (I think I had this at 11?), Orphan or Birth of the Cruel. Dying Song would be the closest they came, which is close, but not quite there. Still, I hope this is not the end, so far as any new Slipknot is always welcome in my music library.

94. Cool It Down by Yeah Yeah Yeahs - 7.8

-A pretty solid return album from the art-punk trio. I saw a couple of these at riotfest before the album came out, and just like there, Wolf ended up being the best new song. It definitely leans in the electronic direction over rock, but I'd consider the very electro It's Blitz to be their best, so there's no problem there.

95. SZNZ: Autumn by Weezer - 6.5

-Another fine, but also kind of forgetable seasonal-themed EP from Weezer, just as the last two were. In a way, that does represent the seasons well. They start, seem like a big deal at first, and then you just get used to it. Except for winter of course, which is the last EP on deck, and one that I hope is very melancholy.

96. Hold The Girl by Rina Sawayama - 5

-The title track, Hold The Girl, and a few others are pretty decent. Overall though, too much of this album sounds the same. The theme is "I eat pussy because god wants me to" and that theme is repeated over and over. I don't remember her last record being that way. She just hooked up with whoever she wanted and didn't give a damn what god thought. Maybe I am misrembering?

97. Asphalt Meadows by Death Cab For Cutie - 8

-Death Cab continue their evolution following the departure of guitarist Chris Walla. They are more electronic than ever, yet the spirit remains the same. Ben Gibbard's vocals and lyrics still soar over any type of music that is accompanying it. Plus its not all different. For every Roman Candles, there's a more traditonal Death Cab track like Here To Forever. It was a good balance for me, and I bet most other DCFC fans feel the same.

98. Suckerpunch by Maggie Lindemann - 4.5

-Disappointing follow-up to her debut from last year. Paranoia, the 2021 effort, had a bunch of great songs with a bunch of different sounds. This whole new record sounds like she is trying to permanently install herself in the 1pm slot at Danny Weimer rock festivals. I guess that's the world we live in right now.

99. Expert in a Dying Field by The Beths - 7.5

-This indie group from New Zealand continues to improve on their third full length album. Apple calls them tighter and brighter than ever and I don't think anyone would disagree.

Will have The 1975 album review up tomorrow or day after. It was Very Very Good.

100. Being Funny In A Foreign Language by The 1975 - 10

-A wildly ambitious sound, combined with their usual darkly humerous lyrics. The 1975 are in peak form and this will be a record to remember. I've listened like five times already. :funny: :funny:

Looking For Somebody To Love
Part of the Band
Oh Caroline
About You
Wintering
When We Are Together
Happiness
I'm In Love With You
The 1975
All I Need To Hear
Human Too

Those are my rankings for now. You know its historic when even their opening 1975 track rips too.

Still working on grades for the Apopalypse, but this one was easier and only required a pair of listens.

101. The Car by Arctic Monkeys - 6.2

-Arctic Monkeys are back to the lounge type music from Tranquility Base and Casino instead of returning to the brit-rock roots they had come close to perfecting on AM. It's not what I wanted from them, but the songs are still lyrically good. Feels like any of these songs could be used as backround in a 007 movie, but one like No Time To Die/You Only Live Twice where the actor is old and doesn't have time for punk-rock anymore.

102. Midnights by Taylor Swift - 9.6

-After a year of doing remakes of her old albums, Taylor comes back with 20 original tracks and is still on fire. Really, if she retired today she'd still be the greatest solo artist of all time, yet she keeps blessing us with more and more amazing songs. Though speaking of impressive feats, producer Jack Antonoff pulled off this Taylor record and a near perfect 1975 record just one week before. That's kind of insane for anyone.

1. Anti-Hero
2. Karma
3. Bejeweled
4. Lavender Haze
5. Midnight Rain
6. Snow On The Beach
7. Maroon
8. Mastermind
9. Wouldve Couldve Shouldve
10. Vigilante Shit
11. The Great War
12. Bigger Than The Whole Sky
13. Youre On Your Own Kid
14. Paris
15. Question
16. Dear Reader
17. Glitch
18. Sweet Nothing
19. Labyrinth
20. High Infidelity

103. The Loneliest Time by Carly Rae Jepsen - 10

-I'm handing out tens like a maniac around here, two in as many weeks is crazy talk, but I can't help it. Every song on this record is a killer bop and I love them all.

1. Surrender My Heart
2. Talking To Myself
3. Bends
4. Sideways
5. So Nice
6. Beach House
7. Go Find Yourself or Whatever
8. Keep Away
9. Bad Thing Twice
10. Western Wind
11. Anxious
12. Joshua Tree
13. Far Away
14. No Thinking Over The Weekend
15. Shooting Star
16. The Loneliest Time

All great tracks!!

Post Re: 2022: Music In Review
After many many many replays of 1975, Carly and Taylor, I am way far behind on my new albums now. So here are some that were released over a month ago. :hahaha:

104. Graveyard Island by Grade 2* - 8

-This is was a nice way to rebound, a brand new ban (for me) that sounds like vintage punk rock from the late 70s and 80s that hails from somewhere in the UK that I didn't know existed (the Isle of Wight? Don't ya'll have enough wights over there?) . They bring the energy, they bring the outrage and they turn it all into great tunes.

105. U Wasn't There by Cam'ron & A-Trak - 6.8

-Veteran rapper Cam'ron teams up with Duck Sauce's DJ A-Trak to make a pretty solid album. Or EP or mixtape, not sure what Cam called this, but I just like to make things easier.

Woops, I guess I forgot to update before I went out of town lol. Now I have to remember things. :funny:

106. Aboogi by Imarhan - 7.0

-Another strong effort by the Taureg Afrock group. Another one where I have no idea what they're saying, but can vibe with it anyways,

107. $oul $oul $eperately by Freddie Gibbs - 7.5

-Probably my favorite record from Gibbs so far. The rapper is in fine form here.

108. Nymph by Shygirl* - 8.5

-This English DJ makes her own beats and sings/rap her own lyrics. It sounds quite unique, like she was the only one who could make these songs, which is what I always look for in new artists. And her name is a reference to the Mario Universe, so that makes her quadruply cool.

109. I Got Issues by YG - 5.8

-This started off with some good tracks but got old and boring pretty quickly. The story of YG's career. :-p

I've got 12 unlistened albums from 2022 in my queue to get through now, some of them heavy hitters like Red Hot Chili Peppers and Sloan, but I think there's only one more upcoming release I'm interested in (the return of White Lung!) so there should be plenty of time to get through everything before the end of the year.

110. Steady by Sloan - 8.0

-Steady is the right word to describe this long-lived Canadian rock band. I started listening to them in 2011, The Double Cross placed in my top 5 albums of the year, and even that was a full 19 years after they released their debut album. Since then they've put out almost an entire career's worth of stellar albums, including this one here, along with several reissues of their past work. Again, no better word could describe them than Steady.

111. The Will To Live by Titus Andronicus - 7

-There are two types of Titus albums. As heard in their new album that I'm reviewing right now is the classic rock sounding (lots of piano to accompany the guitars), more personal themes type of album. I like this record, but I do prefer their other type - the Jersey-Punk rock operas about things like a ship in the civil war. I'll take whatever new music they have to offer though.

112. Into The Blue by Broken Bells - 8.5

-Broken Bells is a team-up project from super-producer Dangermouse and James Mercer of The Shins. They popped up in the late 00s almost as a sequel to Dangermouse's other big team-up - Gnarls Barkley. It was a very synthy-indie-rock sound that worked very well for them. Into The Blue, their first album in over eight years, ditches the electronica though. Instead it sounds like what I'll 007 lounge music, epic and soothing at the same time. Basically what Wings was doing in the 70s, and what the Arctic Monkeys have been trying to achieve on their last two records. Mouse and Mercer cracked whatever code the Monks couldn't and the result is a terrific album! Favorite song is probably Love on the Run.

113. Return of the Dream Canteen by Red Hot Chili Peppers - 6.5

-The Chilis return with their second (very long) album of 2022. This one embraces their funky side more than the last one, but both are equally fine and forgettable. There's nothing wrong with that, they've been going strong for like 35 years now, but this was also the big return of the original guitarist John Frusciante. The last time he left and came back, they ripped off Californication, By The Way and Stadium Arcadium. So it was a bit surprising that these were weaker than the two albums they made it in his abscence.

114. Spirits by Nothing More* - 6.1

-This is a metal band that have been popping up on festival cards (though not one that I've been at thus far.) The first track, Turn It Up Like (Stand in the Fire), is 100% hype and I was ready for something special. It never quite reached that level, TIUL is far and away the best song, but if they do play one of my festivals I'll at least have that to look forward to.

115. Tejano Punk Boyz by Giovannie and the Hired Guns* - 5

-I should have known better than to listen to an "And The" band. How many good ones have there been lately? Zero. But the lead single, Ramon Ayala, was pretty good and these dudes look like total badasses in their band photos. The album is full of pretty generic rock songs though. The type of rock they'd throw on at a mainstream festival to please the dads whose children ditched them to camp the barricade for the headliner.

114. Diaspora Problems by Soul Glo* - 9.3

-I'm not even sure how to describe this album. I guess ... chaos punk ... mixed with hip-hop? Hardcore mixed with nu-metal? Grimecore mixed with grimerap? I dunno, but I do know that it's awesome and possibly the most unique and creative thing I've heard all year.

115. The Classic Symptoms of a Broken Spirit by Architects - 7

-I wasn't crazy about the first single from the british metalcore group's newest album, but luckily most of the rest are good. I really hope they play Be Very Afraid in their live sets, if they ever come back to America (the tour I was gonna go to last year got cancelled!)

116. Crybaby by Tegan and Sara - 5.5

-Eh. Releasing this on the same day as Taylor and Carly was not their best idea. Impossible to not compare the three and these sisters came up short.

Two more off the list, but I added two more from a "Best New Artists of 2022" list, so the total count in my album queue is still 8 more. I actually might not be able to get to them all before the Flava'd Fifty ...
