Not too impressed with 21-19, but In The End is just an awesome and perfect song.

17. Avril Lavigne - When You're Gone

What? This ballad over My Happy Ending, Complicated, Sk8er Boi, Girlfriend, I'm With You, etc. Yes, while I have love for most Avril singles of 2000s, this one appeals to me the most. The verses get me every time between the delicate way she sings it, piano instrumental and some of the lyrics like clothes on the floor etc., and the power chorus sells the emotion of the song.

If you haven't listened to it already, you should check out her cover of How You Remind Me (more of a ballad arrangement), since it was also on your list.

16. Counting Crows - Accidentally In Love

Their Shrek 2 soundtrack contribution ended up one of their best songs ever, the energy of this song and guitar etc. has always seemed really likeable and catchy to me and is a romantic song that makes love sound fun if scary to the singer. It slowing down a little bit near the end is nice too. This is a song that always makes me feel good to hear.

Yea I found it when I posted the other version a few days ago. I also really like her Knockin On Heaven's Door.

15. Lady Gaga - Just Dance

Picking my favorite of the Gaga's epic The Fame/The Fame Monster run was tricky, although my actual favorite songs from her are deeper cuts. But I'll go with the OG hit, the great bet is the biggest reason for its success although I like its weirdly inspirational just dance message even if the meaning is mostly literal. I like the descriptions of her increasing drunkness, and the Colby guy's version is pretty solid ("shorty you have so much energy"). The "half psychotic" etc. type bridge is also solid.

14. T.I. feat. Justin Timberlake - Dead and Gone

The production in this song is perfect leading to to the the epic Timberlake chorus, and T.I. despite not even being hard, makes getting in fights or seeing people die in the hood sound cooler than the million gangster rappers who's tried. A great song about an aged warrior thinking about the meaning of life, death and time.

I've been looking at old charts from the early 00s and they used to be so much more fun. Any genre had a chance at making a big hit.

Nowadays our diversity is

1. Pop music made by white people
2. Pop music made by black people
3. Pop music made by hispanic people
4. Pop music made by asian people

Lots of memories during Gaga's early years.

Although I like the Born This Way album more than The Fame/Fame Monster. Not as catchy, no, definitely not, but the songs are better.

Born This Way has a few more songs I don't care about (I like almost every song on the Fame/The Fame Monster) but its best ones are fantastic

13. Taylor Swift - You Belong With Me

A perfect song for the teenage Taylor's style with the relatable 90s teen movie type of storyline of the best friend girl who's really his soulmate. Musically obviously it's really catchy and Taylor adds a lot to it with her vocals. I could have thrown some other songs on here like Fearless or Fifteen from one of my favorite albums of all time but I'll stick with this.

12. 3 Doors Down - Kryptonite

I have always found this one of the catchiest rock songs of this era, something about the guitar, drums etc. just makes it build so well from the start. The lyrics are epic and and using Superman as a metaphor instead of literally is for the better I think. If I go crazy will you still call me Superman?

11. U2 - Stuck In A Moment

Really beautiful song by U2 and the theme of being stuck in a moment has always stuck with me or made me want to cry at times. Bono's vocal performance really sells the emotion of the song. I'm posting both videos since I like them both, but the football one is my favorite and perfect for the theme.

I can't do Kryptonite anymore. It's good, it's catchy. But it has to be among the most over-played songs I've ever heard. (Not to say being over-played is always a bad thing, I can listen to some songs over and over forever, but not this one!) It's a bit of a struggle to listen to now! :funny:

Not a U2 fan, though Stuck in a Moment is probably my favorite of theirs.

That Lavigne song is OK, but I do prefer her other hits, top 16 so far is banging.

10. Coldplay - The Scientist

I think the key to the song is the piano riff which is so simple but so effective, and of course they had the perfect voice to put on top of it to make it one of the most beautiful songs of the decade. I also really like when the other instruments kick in the second verse, and the last quarter of the verse with no words is as effective as the rest of the song. The way the "scientist" theme plays out (I interpret it as trying to apply logic/reason to a relationship ending for reasons you can't explain with reason) is really smart without having to go out of their way to explain it in a way that takes away from the power o lines like "take me back to the start" and "nobody said it was easy, but nobody said it would be this hard".

9. Michelle Branch - All You Wanted

I had a pretty big thing for Branch back in the day in multiple ways and this song was my favorite, her vocals especially during the chorus are great saying simple but highly effective lines like "If you want to, I can save you, I can take you away from here" and "all you wanted was somebody who cares" and overall codependent type of theme making the song more complex relationship wise than it might seem.

Never really cared for Coldplay. Michelle Branch, however, I really enjoyed (especially Hotel Paper).

The one 2000s subgenre I couldn’t really find a way to put on my list is the Britney/Xtina/Simpson/etc., Britney and Xtina would be on the 90s though

8. System of a Down - Chop Suey!

This is my favorite song of its genre in history, the highlight is the chorus with the last minute being one of the best parts of any song, but the heavy parts leading up to it is why it feels like such an emotional release when he gets to that. The lyrics are actually good with “I don’t think you trust in my self righteous suicide, I cry when angels deserve to die” being such an an epic line and “you wanted to” part having meaning psychologically. I am slightly disappointed though that he’s not actually saying he just masterbated with the shake up.

Chop Suey is a better choice for metal song than what I predicted.

Let's drop another heavy hitter!

7. Eminem - Lose Yourself

The musical backing has to be one of the best for a rap song with the piano/guitar/drum just working so well setting the stage for Eminem's lyrics, and I love how his desperation to succeed and reasons for it and intensity ramps up through the song, for me peaking in the 3rd verse with the "feet fail me not" part. It also wouldn't be the same without the extended opening (both instrumentally and his talking).
