I was thinking about doing an article about it. By that point 2010-2019 will be like 1980-1989 is for us. What are your picks?

Artists I hear most frequently on recurrent radio are Ed Sheeran, Maroon 5 and Pink.

I like that Gotye is one of the last true one hit wonders, as in "and nobody heard from then ever again" and not just Carly Rae Jepsen who had no more hits but at least had her fans and acclaimed albums

Rock always endures. I feel like The Killers will be remembered the same way as Queen.

Most pop hits are embarrassing after 10-15 years then come back around for that sweet nostalgic bliss.

It’s on recurrent radio ALL THE TIME. It’s probably the number one song that triggers a channel change for me.

I had Imagine Dragons Radioactive as possibly sticking

Eh, I can see them being played in commercials twenty years down the road, but nobody respecting them artistically.

So just like now.

Look at the big festival cards to see who will be around for the long run. I think Tame Impala stink but his rise from nobody to coheadlining Coachella with Ariana Grande suggests a long long stay.

And we're not looking at seeing what masterpieces of music will persist through the ages. 2050 is as far removed from the 2010's as 2020 is from the 80's, and there are a lot of fluffy, one-hit wonder pop songs from back then that are still popular today. Someone mentioned Carly Rae Jepsen earlier, and songs like her "Call Me Maybe" and Kesha's "Tik Tok" (came out in 2009, got big in 2010) are going to be staples of 2010's pop radio at some point.

I would have thought Maroon 5 would stick around but they have actually nosedived a little despite all the hits. In the 2018 they played the 20000 seat basketball arena here and were selling tickets for $100+. This year, before covid eliminated all concerts, they were scheduled to play the outdoor amphitheater which holds around 3-4 thousand AND were discounting tickets on groupon for $20. Pretty weird especially considering GLY, a huge hit on billboard, came out in between.

Maroon 5 is the literal mening of background music, that's why.

If you went by the 80s and 90s then virtually every #1 hit would be safe to be getting some airplay and be recognized down the road

However, I think 80s and 90s were much better for pop music than this era. Those songs have lasted because they deserve it. Without albums being as important, music releases are less of a shared pop culture experience I feel. Some songs like Closer might be in danger of irrelevance in a way a mega hit in its time from the 80s would have no chance of being and that's just for pop songs, there's double digit #1s like In My Feelings or The Box that could easily leave little fingerprint

Best one hit wonders of the decade

Call Me Maybe (if it counts)
Somebody That I Used to Know
Shut Up and Dance
Let Her Go
Rude
Cheerleader
Pumped Up Kicks
Feel It Still (for now)
Fight Song
Best Day of My Life
In America: Despacito, Gangnam Style
As crossover: If I Die Young

Not as bad as I thought. Might be better than 2000-2009.

I was about to say the same thing. Born This Way seems to have been forgotten already.
