We have until Tuesday for lockdown, so might as well keep the pahtay going. Who wants to do the macarena? Just keep those hands away from me! Still better than the Harlem Shake though, which requires far too many people.

Post Re: The Flava'd Fif7y: Party Like the 90s (50-41)
40. I had originally thought that because Teen Spirit and Come as You Are were excluded (both made the Greatest Songs list) this list could happen without Nirvana. It was a foolish thought. Every self-respecting 90s list has to have them on there. But yeah, they are the iconic artist of the decade and you know all the rest. This was the last song on their final album and even though that’s a deeply sad thought, it works.

39. Ice Cube was a guy known for his temper. In Straight Outta Compton he tore up his manager’s office because his royalties were overdue and in Anaconda he stuck a pickaxe into the head of a giant snake. He also savagely ripped apart his old band members on No Vaseline, which would have been perfectly at home on here. But just taking the time to appreciate when things go right for you is something that people aren’t able to do most of the time, it’s easier to focus on all the negatives (especially right now.) Of course in the final moments of the song he cuts himself off and asks “what am I thinking about?” and the next song is called We Gonna Tear This Mothafucker Up, but hey, we take what peace we can get.

38. Cypress Hill tow the line between hip-hop and stoner rock, their legacy being better remembered (and then shortly) forgotten by fans of the latter. How I Could Just Kill A Man was also covered by Rage on their Renegades album, which was dope. I like this one better, not only because it is the original, but because of the contrasting tones where these goofy guys getting high could just snap at any point and are kind enough to outline the reasons this may happen ahead of time. I was supposed to see these guys at Sonic Temple this year but that probably won’t happen now.

37. Speaking of Sonic Temple .. actually let’s not. Anyways, Soundgarden are probably best known for their Superunknown album which features Black Hole Sun and Spoonman. I was in the camp up until a few months ago, when I reran through the grunge of the 90s and realized Burden In My Hand was actually their best song by far. It’s sad, but in an ironic way that actually makes me feel better about myself. Cornell just kills it on here too. I love when a song comes in strong and this is one of the better vocal intros in history.

36. When I Grow Up is also known as the song from Big Daddy, where Adam Sandler is forced to mature after a decade plus of messing around. That didn’t last for long, but it was a good film. This was also a stretch from for Garbage. Sure they were a popular band, who made synth-rocky songs before, but much more known for much more downbeat material. This huge Bop of a song had much more than a few people asking “wait this is Garbage?” They would use this momentum to get “The World is Not Enough” gig the next year. That’s right, for Bond, James Bond and it’s the obvious inspiration for Eilish’s take on it.

35. Torn is the type of pop song that worked so well in the 90s. It’s soothing yet has a big attitude, examining the end of a relationship and while Natalie Imbruglia outlines all the reasons why it should end, she still feels that tug. And he probably does too MIRITE? But tearing apart is rough if it goes on for too long, and the wailing guitar that comes out during the outro suggests the stitches (also a good song by a band called Orgy) are still to come.

34. I always love when I listen to a song, think it’s very romantic, and then upon further inspection find a darkness within. Is that weird? So yeah even though I could see myself dancing at someone’s wedding to Disarm, the killer in me is the killer in you, it wouldn’t fit the room at all. Like most Pumpkins songs, it is depressing and about child abuse, abortion, etc… Those violins though! They send a smiler over to me. Choosing a Smashing Pumpkins was pretty tough since they had a Lot of great ones during this decade, and Zero will probably never forgive me, but I think this is the right choice. Such a beautifully disturbing song.

Torn is one of the best pop songs of the 90s, and one of the sexiest videos.

Disarm would be up there for my favourite Pumpkins songs

Did Where is the Love by the Black Eyed Peas sample Torn? It sounds very similar to me.

Torn is one of the best songs ever, music taste is so subjective though, it doesn't matter where it's ranked, it's awesome enough that's featured in this list.
