Hopefully the new Ed Sheeran era has more interesting singles than Bad Habits and Shivers

Ew I actually like one of the Wallen songs (One Thing At A Time), Last Night isn't as good but not worse than half the songs that make top 10 I guess and better than You Proof.

That's a pretty dramatic #1 in terms of Billboard feats worth highlighting.

That song was released 6 years ago in 2016 but has gone viral again on Tiktok and the remix with Grande got to #1. At 6 years, 2 months, 3 weeks, it's the second longest time to #1 behind only Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You at 19 years, 11 months, 2 weeks.

As it took a total of 31 total weeks to get to #1, that's the 4th longest climb of all time.

Starboy the album now has two Hot 100 #1s along with the title track. It sets a record for longest time between #1 songs from the same album.

Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers” is #2 but still went up in radio songs 7% so could very well be back at #1 again soon.

Combine this all with Running Up The Hill reaching a new peak of #3 27 years later last year after it was featured in Stranger Things and also went #1 on the global Billboard chart as it topped 8 country charts.

Dua Lipa / Elton John's Cold Heart reaching #7 in Jan. 2022 as well heavily featuring Sacrifice”, “Rocket Man (I Think It's Going to Be a Long, Long Time),” “Kiss the Bride,” and "Where's the Shoorah?” 33 years after the last song was released.

So we saw:
A medley of songs from 33+ years ago reach #7 in Jan. 2022 (Elton)
37 year old song reach top 3 in Jul. 2022 (Kate)
29 year old song go back to #1 in Dec. 2022 (Mariah)
6 year old song go back to #1 in Mar. 2023 (Weeknd).

Makes me think there could be some really cool re-releases with marketing and musical re-imaginings continue to make comebacks. I'm differing that from a Every Breath You Take (Sting) to I'll Be Missing You (Puff Daddy) sampling which we've seen done a lot before or Whitney's I Will Always Love You remake of Dolly's original.

It's really something to see how the music industry looks to be recycling music and learning so well from the movie industry's continual regurgitation of old content.

Gross.

I don't mind people still listening to their favorite artists even after they've revealed themselves to be shitty. I still bump Kanye and Michael. And who knows what kind of shit classic rockstars got up to. The only artist I've ever dumped is lostprophets.

But its always bugged me that Wallen's popularity substantially Increased after the video of him yelling the n word at people was released. Like people saw it and were like "that's the type of guy I want to support." Ugh.

I think that has much more to do with the whole name recognition from being canceled thing. He was way less famous before that incident.

Also, I think many listen to him to tell the woke cancel culture people to pound sand rather than to show they love the N word.

It blowing up his popularity isn’t the best look but I feel like among N word drops it was on the friendlier side, like a frat bro calling his white friend one with the soft a (not sure if his was an a or an r as it’s bleeped).

His numbers are on par with Harry Styles and The Weekend and only 100k below Certified Lover Boy. Only Taylor Swift and Adele are album sellers far out of his league at this point.

I think a solo BTS member but not 100% sure. He is K-pop though

BTS fans really came together for this one in a way they didn't for previous solo releases. It's always bizarre how they can push a song to #1 through sheer buying power alone, but then K-Pop is geared towards playing into obsessive behaviour and consumerism more than most things are, so it's not too surprising.

I like the song though, it gives me Dua Lipa's "Future Nostalgia" vibes.

Post Malone's new song has nothing hip hop adjace about it at all, just straight up pop. I'm ok with it.
