Interesting. I'm sure it's happened before, probably many times since streaming began, but seems like something label companies and such would want to avoid happening, so they could claim records for #1 debut songs/artists and such. |

The 5 hours was cause they released it midnight UK time. Also previous some songs would debut just based on radio play since they counted radio through Sunday but I believe that has changed recently |

Definitely watched TRL a good bit after middle school.  They also had artists live in the studio to perform their song (current single) that was on the countdown versus playing the video that day pretty often. A lot of videos (most? at least for the big stars at the time) would debut on TRL, too, I believe. |
