Lol that’s basically only 2 years since 2021 and 2020 had about enough movies for one year. And no one has seen any of the streaming movies that released in 2020

I guess that's fair. I think 2020 would have at least one Picture and Actress nominee in Promising Young Woman, and a contender in Animated in Soul. Then maybe a few comedies like Palm Springs and Borat would have a chance for nomination in that category.

There is nothing wrong with 2021's list imo, some 2020 movies getting pushed there made up for weak start.

I guess it's best to just wait a year and a half for the Halfies

These are the nominees for Best Original Song.

Aint Worried About It by OneRepublic (Top Gun: Maverick)
Carolina by Taylor Swift (Where The Crawdads Sing)
Hold My Hand by Lady Gaga (Top Gun: Maverick)
Lift Me Up by Rihanna (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever)
New Body Rhumba by LCD Soundsystem (White Noise)

I'm glad "Carolina" and "New Body Rhumba" were nominated. Probably the best picks out of them all.

Best picture lineup incoming. Each movie gets its own post. I like our nominees, but not gonna lie, there's gonna be some heartbreak for a few of you other there. But its inevitable, so let us move on with the ten best picture nominees of 2022.

Where's this heartbreak? I think it's a decent Best Picture lineup, and can't see any glaring omission.

It would give Suicide Squad another chance to win best picture so I'm all for it.

This is kind of unfair. Nobody else saw Close but it gets nominated because Mike campaigned for it and people are so uncultured they just follow whoever shouts the loudest. Yet Speak No Evil was actually seen by more than one person, and it was nominated by people, yet it misses the cut.

Lecter wouldn't allow this shit. ;)

While I'm surprised to see it nominated it's better than most of the movies nominated. Fucking Elvis.

These nominations are so basic. I think this started last year. We used to have more variety.

Kind of surprised Mia Goth couldn't get in here of all places. I mean she did for Breakthrough but I expected her to be in Actress for sure.

I guess Top Gun for everything. If any mainstream blockbuster deserves it it's this one.

Thanks for putting this together Flava'd.
Funny enough, them being basic by normal standards is what added the drama and surprise for me lol. Banshees doing so well in the lower categories only to get shut out of Director and Picture was a shot. And Turning Red bombing so hard is stunning considering how well Pixar has done in the past.

I think the crowd who pushed Promising Young Woman to a win two years ago just couldn't agree on anything this year too. Nothing like even Worst Person In The World which came up short against Spider-Man last year.

It's Andrea Riseborough all over again.

BTW - in regard to trimester awards etc, it wouldn't be a bad idea if we did a "best of the decade" set of awards show - i.e. Best of the 10's, Best of the 00's, Best of the 90's.

Start from the most recent and go backwards. We could run them every few months and the retrospective nature of it allows for changes in our collective film preferences (and allows for films we never saw in previous years but have since caught up on)

Just a thought.

Overal pretty great nominations I think, better than recent years (but I also think 2022 was the best year for movies in awhile).

Main big “ouch” for me is Stephanie Hsu missing Best Supporting Actress. Even moreso than Yeoh or Quan, I think Hsu carried the heart of the movie, and delivered an iconic, hilarious, and heartbreaking performance.

Of course Puss In Boots dropped to the standard $20 (I'm not supporting the $30 movies lest Hollywood get ides about bunping up the price of every movie) on itunes right after I do the nominations and of course I loved it. Sorry to the Bootsmen out there, I could've pushed it in by seeing it in theaters last month but just never made the trip. :(
