Post A challenge
Can you think of a combination of letters where substituting in all of A, E, I, O or U for its vowel, makes it still a valid word?

For example pat, pet, pit, pot, put are all words, as are bag, beg, big, bog and bug.

However for this challenge, you must think of one that's at least 4 letters long. And it has to be a "normal" word rather than some obscure one that you had to look up before you knew it existed.

Does it have to be a four letter word with a single vowel or are one or more allowed?

Chic = Choc
Cham = Chum
Chat = Chit
Char = Cher (does that count?)
Chap = Chip, Chop
Clap = Clip, Clop
Chaw = Chew, Chow (I'm from Appalachia, so...)

This? Or does it have to be a four letter word where filling in the vowel slot with every vowel is still a word, meaning 5 words.

And is something like... Fail = Foul = Feel = Foil allowed?

You're only allowed to change one vowel such as pat, pet, pit, pot, put

Technically I would allow it if a word had two vowels in it and the same one was changed every time, for example foil and fail, but I think it'd be nearly impossible to find any of those that complete the full set of all five vowels (in that case fuil, feil and fiil won't work). Actually fool, foul, foil, and foal comes pretty close, but dies on foel.

You need all 5 vowels for it to count, I believe tats and tuts are technically words in an obscure way, but tets is not. Plus to win the challenge it has to be 4 letter word.

Dick = Dack = Deck = Dock = Duck

I didn't know what Dack meant, so I guess I can be disqualified though. But this works!

You can only change one vowel with the other letters the same, Bake and Bike would work together for example but not buke, boke and beke

Last - Lest - List - Lost - Lust

This is the closest I got (today) with the least obscure word included. I was going through my DVD/Blu-ray collection (which I alphabetize) looking for four letter words in the titles and stopped on The Last Unicorn. I'll do "M" to "Z" tomorrow.

I suppose you could say "Lest" is obscure, anyway, and perhaps so, but it's much less so than the many other four letter words I came up with while working on this. "Lest we forget" is said fairly commonly, I feel. Is it a normal word? Probably not.

Ball, Bell, Bill, Boll, Bull
Mall, Mell, Mill, Moll, Mull

If either Boll or Mell doesn't count, you're the modern-day Putin.

Pack Peck Pick Pock Puck
Tack Teck Tick Tock Tuck

Last two I came up with by going through the alphabet once over, but each have an iffy word (Pock and Teck), but less iffy (especially Pock) than many other attempts (not that hard to get 4/5 on many words).

How many did you come up with, Shack?

Other than the Last/Lest/List/Lost/Lust, I have two more not mentioned yet where the fifth word seems good enough to count. Plus a 3rd one that might count as it has a word most known for having a dash in the middle, but it seems defendable enough to use the first part of it only.

Pock as a short way of saying pockmark seems like it might be valid, although I still haven't seen the word used that much, I don't know as much about skincare as some people though. I'd vote against Teck.

Yes but the goal is also for the word to work with a, o and u

Need all 5 at once by only changing the same vowel eg last, lest, list, lost, lust

My other answers were

Mass, Mess, Miss, Moss, Muss

Hack, Heck, Hick, Hock, Huck

Borderline: Mash, Mesh, Mish, Mosh, Mush (Only if you consider "mish mash" two different words)
